We are now seeking a skilled Lead Technical Specialist to join The Mobile Enablement & Messaging team. The team is responsible for crafting mobile solutions such as messaging, scam control, eSIM, roaming, and location services to support Optus business units.
The day to day
As a Lead Technical Specialist, your primary duties will involve:
- Performing life cycle management, capacity management, platform architecture and evolution, and capital management associated with the platform including tendering and benchmarking.
Developing and maintaining platform roadmaps, architecture, and evolution plans years).
Acting as a Subject Matter Expert for the relevant technology area.
- Assessing existing network elements and implementing updates to build all network components to meet Optus' network composition standards.
- Specifying, defining, and documenting procedures, standards, and protocols to ensure engineering guidelines.
- Proactively liaising with internal groups and business units to drive and resolve network and/or process-related issues.
- Liaising with vendors for commercial and technical matters.
- Managing the preparation, execution, and reporting of the AOP planned activities and budget requirements. Preparing capital submissions to support planned network activities.

To excel in this role, you will need:
Strong telco background with experience in managing and delivering solutions in the areas of messaging and scam messaging control and management that support regulatory and operational needs
A technical qualification (degree) in Telecommunications Engineering (or related Engineering field) or equivalent (desirable)
- Highly experienced in mobile telecommunications, encompassing 4G and 5G Core technologies.
- Proficient understanding of fundamental mobile technologies.
- Strong knowledge of 3GPP standards for 4G and 5G, along with expertise in Network Function Virtualisation, Orchestration and Automation, and/or cloud deployment technologies.
- Experience with delivery and management of core network applications as VNFs and CNFs within a virtual network environment.
- Project and program management knowledge; leading small dedicated or virtual teams would be beneficial.
- Experience in dealing with a variety of vendors on commercial and contractual matters, non-delivery, new pricing proposals, and SOW.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate at middle and senior management levels.
- Good experience in vendor management.
