CMF Design Assistant

IN A NUTSHELL…
Our CMF (Colour, Material, Finish) team crafts the sensory language that defines every Bellroy product; from that signature terracotta leather to the precise texture of an edge paint. We know that materials tell stories. A single shade variation can transform a product's entire personality and catching inconsistencies before they reach production is essential to translating creative vision into manufacturing reality.
We're now seeking a CMF Design Assistant to join our Design team and own our technical colour documentation systems. You'll create and maintain the detailed specifications that guide every product through production, build our comprehensive digital colour library, and systematise our physical and digital archives. This role thrives on precision and ensuring colour accuracy across every component, trim, and material in our product range.
Your obsessive eye for detail helps you spot discrepancies others miss. You'll intercept potential production issues before they happen, bridging the gap between creative intent and manufacturing execution. But this role isn't just about following specs – it's about mastering the technical requirements that transform designs into exceptional products.\
Bring us your desgn training, colour expertise, and passion for getting things exactly right. In return, we'll offer you invaluable mentorship from an experienced Senior Designer, the opportunity to build foundational systems from scratch, and a front-row seat to how great products come to life.
YOU'D MAKE A GREAT CMF DESIGN ASSISTANT IF YOU…
- Have a degree in fashion, textiles, accessory/ industrial design, or similar creative field
- Possess strong Adobe Creative Cloud skills (particularly Illustrator) and are eager to expand your technical design capabilities
- Have an exceptional eye for colour and want to deepen your understanding of how materials and finishes interact in production phases
- Are naturally organised and excited to learn how to create systems that scale across a growing product range
- Pay attention to details that others might miss (and it genuinely bothers you when they're wrong)
- Can communicate clearly with both creative and technical teams and enjoy working collaboratively
- Are excited to learn the technical side of product development and understand that beautiful design means nothing if it can't be manufactured correctly
IF YOU WERE HERE LAST WEEK, HERE ARE SOME OF THE THINGS YOU MIGHT HAVE DONE...
- Created detailed colourway specifications for three new wallet styles, ensuring every stitch, zip, and edge paint was documented correctly
- Reviewed lab dips from suppliers and noted which ones needed adjustment to match our standards
- Updated our digital colour library with new Pantone references and supplier codes
- Coloured technical sketches in Illustrator for an upcoming backpack launch
- Organised physical colour swatches from the archives into our new filing system
- Caught a thread colour mismatch that could have delayed production by two weeks
- Collaborated with the Product Graphic Designer on ensuring print colours work with base materials
- Communicated specification updates to the product development team and worked with them to understand the purpose behind these proposed changes.
LOCATION & HOURS
This is a full-time role based in our Collingwood office.
