Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Watermark Search International Full time $104,000 - $130,878 per year

About the Role

This is a high-impact senior leadership opportunity at the heart of the University's governance and strategic direction. Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor administratively, and functionally to the Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee, the Director of Internal Audit provides independent assurance on the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management, and governance. You'll lead a team of audit professionals, shape a forward-looking audit strategy, and deliver high-quality, value-adding services that support the University's integrity and long-term ambitions.

With significant autonomy and influence, you'll engage closely with senior stakeholders—including the University Leadership Team and UTS Council Audit & Risk Committee—to embed a proactive risk culture and drive accountability. Operating in a maturing risk environment, you'll balance strategic collaboration with rigorous assurance, manage internal audit providers, and advise on emerging risks and regulatory changes. This is a rare opportunity to lead with impact, drive continuous improvement, and shape the future of internal audit at one of Australia's leading universities.

About You

You are a seasoned audit and risk professional with over 15 years of leadership experience in complex, regulated environments. You hold a Chartered Accountant qualification (or equivalent) and a Bachelor's degree, with a risk management qualification considered highly desirable. You bring gravitas, independence, and the courage to challenge constructively. Your strategic mindset is matched by your ability to think both big-picture and be hands-on. You are known for your strong commercial acumen, service orientation, and ability to influence senior stakeholders. You have a proven track record of leveraging technology, data analytics, and outsourced audit engagements to uplift audit performance.

Your communication skills are exceptional, and you are adept at building trust, engaging others, and delivering results. You are comfortable navigating complex stakeholder environments and are energised by the challenge of driving continuous improvement. You lead with integrity, inspire with insight, and protect with purpose.
