NSW Health Pathology is coordinating a State-wide joint recruitment process for all of our Staff Specialist vacancies in the specialty of Anatomical Pathology. Candidates will only need to apply once to be considered for all of the vacancies listed below.
There are 12.3 FTE Staff Specialist vacancies advertised as part of this State-wide process. All of the positions are Permanent.
*Positions advertised as part of this process may be Full Time or Part Time. Where a Full Time position is advertised, appointments on a fractional basis may be negotiated between the candidates, Clinical Directors and Directors of Operations.
We are currently recruiting to the vacancies below but there will be more opportunities arising in NSW Health Pathology in the future. We intend to create an Eligibility List as part of this recruitment process. Candidates who are placed on the Eligibility List can be contacted for future vacancies as they arise.

About Anatomical Pathology in NSWHP
NSW Health Pathology is the largest Anatomical Pathology public service provider in Australia, employing over 160 Anatomical Pathologists across the State.
Our team of Anatomical Pathology Staff Specialists work at laboratories at public hospitals providing high quality diagnostic, consultative and on-call specialty services for public hospital patients and those at some private hospitals and GP practices.
We provide a full range of integrated comprehensive Histopathology and Cytopathology services including Immunohistochemistry and Molecular Pathology, as well as a statewide non-coronial autopsy service.
Our expert team of pathologists provide second opinions, actively participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, teach Anatomical Pathology trainees and medical students, have affiliations or conjoint appointments with universities and are world-renowned researchers.
Many of our Anatomical Pathologists are internationally recognised in their area of expertise having edited or authored chapters in the definitive World Health Organisation classifications of tumours.

Selection Criteria
- Currently registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and obtained Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in Anatomical Pathology, and/or other specialist recognition as provided under the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Applicants expected to receive Fellowship by February 2026 are encouraged to apply.
- Demonstrated commitment to basic, applied or clinical research and/or medical education and staff training.
- Proven ability to work as a team member with effective communication, interpersonal skills and adaptability to work within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Demonstrated personal qualities including effective communication skills, motivation, initiative, time management and commitment to professional development.
- Demonstrated commitment to the principles of clinical quality management, continuous improvement and a contemporary knowledge of National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council (NPAAC) Standards and NATA accreditation processes.
- Demonstrated contemporary clinical knowledge, technical expertise and practical reporting skills within the specialty of Anatomical Pathology, including subspecialty expertise or willingness to undertake subspecialisation.
