About the Opportunities

This is an exciting opportunity to make a tangible impact on the wellbeing of staff across NSW public schools and workplaces. As a Senior Staff Wellbeing Officer, you will support the delivery of programs, services and strategic initiatives that foster mentally healthy workplaces and proactively address psychosocial risks.

Working as part of the Health, Safety and Staff Wellbeing Directorate, you will play a key role in building capability across schools and corporate offices, enabling improved wellbeing outcomes for all staff.

About the role

The Senior Staff Wellbeing Officer supports schools and workplaces to identify and manage psychosocial risks and implements wellbeing support initiatives across the Department. You will manage complex, high-risk cases, provide expert advice, and drive strategies that enhance wellbeing at both the local and system level.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Deliver services and programs across the department to support workplaces in identifying psychosocial hazards, associated risk and implement plans to address these risks.
  • Manage complex high risk and sensitive matters through to completion and provide high quality accurate and timely operational advice.
  • Promote and implement effective strategies and programs to build the capability of staff and schools to actively enhance staff wellbeing and mentally healthy workplaces.
  • Prepare reports on performance, analyse data, identifying trends and emerging issues and opportunities to improve psychosocial risk management systems and service delivery.
  • Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with school leadership teams and other key stakeholders to sustain commitment to strengthening mentally healthy workplaces.
  • Conduct regular reviews of internal operational procedures to identify opportunities to build capability and achieve strategic and team goals and targets.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of wellbeing programs and psychosocial hazards interventions.

About you

You're an experienced wellbeing or WHS professional with a strong understanding of psychosocial risk management and a passion for supporting mentally healthy workplaces. You're a confident communicator, effective collaborator and are comfortable working in a dynamic, high-volume environment.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Proven experience implementing staff wellbeing or WHS programs in complex organisations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use data to inform decision-making.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with experience working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement, inclusive workplaces, and public service delivery.

Essential requirements of the role

  • Tertiary qualifications in Work Health Safety, HR, Psychology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Valid Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain one.
  • Valid NSW driver licence and willingness to travel intrastate as required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
