Manager, Specialty Property Underwriting

Property Underwriting Senior Manager.

Your Role

This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for driving the performance and effectiveness of our market-facing underwriters within the Property portfolio. As the strategic and technical lead, you'll shape underwriting direction, influence risk selection, and ensure strong execution of market strategies aligned to profitability, growth, and retention goals. Your insights and leadership will directly support Business Distribution in delivering sustainable margin and portfolio success across all brands and channels.

You'll be at the forefront of underwriting excellence—enhancing commercial pricing, strengthening technical capability, and driving operational improvement across the portfolio. With oversight of underwriting governance, risk management, and license frameworks, you'll ensure robust compliance while enabling performance. Your understanding of market dynamics will guide the development of relevant, competitive propositions through data-driven insight and competitor intelligence.

As a leader of leaders, you'll guide and inspire a team of leaders, fostering a high-performance culture grounded in capability development, accountability, and purpose. As a key escalation and relationship point for brokers and partners, you'll play a central role in decision-making, opportunity development, and driving both customer and partner NPS. Your leadership will shape the employee experience (ENPS), directly influencing the customer outcomes we deliver.

This is a permanent role, based on Gadigal Country (Darling Park, Sydney) or Naarm (Melbourne).

About You

• 10+ years of senior property underwriting experience, with deep technical expertise in commercial property insurance.
• Strong leadership experience, including leading leaders—proven ability to manage, coach, and develop high-performing underwriting teams.
• Demonstrated success in shaping and executing portfolio and market strategies to drive underwriting profitability and growth.
• Advanced commercial acumen and deep understanding of underwriting governance, pricing, and risk selection frameworks.
• Skilled in building strong internal and external relationships, with experience managing complex broker and partner engagements.
• Insurance qualification (e.g., ANZIIF Cert IV) and/or relevant tertiary education, or equivalent industry experience (essential).
