Job Opportunity:

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance has an exciting opportunity for a Senior/Underwriter to join our Property team focusing on Mining and Energy, preferably based in Sydney. The role will be responsible for developing and expanding new business opportunities through production & marketing calls with brokers and clients, utilizing underwriting acumen to select sound risks within company guidelines to maintain profitability.

This position is a great fit for an experienced underwriter looking to expand their responsibilities and underwriting knowledge with an experienced and well-regarded unit within a top global insurance company. The successful candidate will be focused on a positive customer experience, while maintaining sound underwriting discipline and good data and file management.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Manage and build a profitable book of property business focusing primarily on Mining and Energy accounts, whilst also contributing to the broader Technical Lines Team.
• Establish, develop, and expand broker and customer relationships to maximise new and renewal business opportunities.
• Prequalify accounts, utilising underwriting acumen to select property risks within company's risk appetite.
• Underwrite assigned accounts while ensuring appropriate analysis and documentation.
• Underwrite to complex and challenging risks while developing creative solutions for our partners.
• Work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, and make quick thoughtful decisions while maintaining underwriting integrity.
• Work closely with our in-house claims team to help create a positive and transparent experience for our customers.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• 5+ years of Energy, Mining and/or Property underwriting experience.
• Existing broker and customer relationships, or the experience and ability to develop strong broker and customer relationships quickly.
• Strong underwriting acumen.
• Experience and strong understanding of policy forms, including broker manuscripts.
• Experience marketing to specialised brokers.
• Strong collaboration and team building skills.
• Strong communication skills including negotiation, communications, and presentation experience.
• Degree or equivalent education, and/or strong insurance qualifications.
