Staff Software Engineer – .Net Full Stack & AI
Do work that matters
We're building tomorrow's bank today, which means we need creative and diverse engineers to help us redefine what customers expect from a bank. Envisioning new technologies that are still waiting to be invented and reimagining products that support our customers and help build Australia's future economy.
See yourself in our team
We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer who excels at building impactful products and driving technical excellence within a Product Operating Model. You will lead within cross-functional, empowered teams, working as a key member of the product trio alongside Product and Design leaders. Your role extends significantly beyond coding: you will drive technical strategy, mentor engineers across teams, and influence product direction at an organisational level.
We value a "product engineer" mindset combined with technical leadership - where you balance product success, user experience, and technical excellence. We expect you to be an influential communicator who drives alignment across teams and demonstrates technical leadership across the organisation.
What You'll Do
- Lead multiple "core trios" and drive technical strategy across product areas, deeply understanding complex business problems and architecting scalable solutions.
- Define technical architecture and engineering standards across teams, providing strategic technical leadership and influencing technology direction organisation-wide.
- Drive ownership across multiple product areas and complex technical initiatives, from strategic planning to execution and optimisation.
- Champion and lead the integration of cutting-edge AI-driven solutions - including advanced agentic AI - across engineering workflows and product capabilities.
- Stay at the forefront of AI developments (LLMs, agentic AI, emerging technologies) and drive their strategic adoption across the engineering organisation.
- Establish and evolve engineering standards, practices, and culture - driving quality excellence across teams.
- Identify and lead major technical, AI-related, and process transformation initiatives.
- Mentor and develop senior engineers and engineering managers, fostering technical excellence and growth across the organisation.
- Drive technical decision-making in ambiguous, high-stakes situations and lead organisational change initiatives.
- Represent engineering in executive discussions and external technical community.
What We're Looking For:
- Extensive experience in software engineering and proven experience in technical leadership roles, preferably building complex customer-facing products.
- Expert-level technical skills with proven ability to architect and deliver complex systems at scale.
- Significant experience with AI/ML systems, agentic AI, and driving AI strategy within engineering organisations.
- Extensive full-cycle engineering experience with ability to drive complex, multi-team initiatives.
- Exceptional communication and influence skills: able to drive alignment across executive leadership and technical teams.
- Quality champion: established track record of building robust, scalable systems and driving engineering excellence.
- Strategic mindset: able to balance long-term technical vision with immediate business needs.
Technical Skills
We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don't expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with most of these will set you up for success in this team:
- Full stack development: Strong expertise in C#, .Net Core, / , Typescript,
- Database: Proficiency with relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL/Microsoft SQL Server) and NoSQL DBs (AWS DocumentDB)
- Experience building scalable, high-performance and secure APIs
- Cloud & DevOps: Hands-on experience with AWS/Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD tools like GitHub Actions, TeamCity, and Jenkins.
- AI & GenAI Tools: Hands-on experience using GitHub Copilot, Cline, Roocode and AWS Bedrock
- Secure Engineering & DevSecOps: Deep understanding of security principles, DevSecOps, and SRE practices.
- Monitoring & Observability: Familiar with tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, and AWS CloudWatch
- Agile Delivery & Testing: Proven experience with TDD/BDD, automated testing and service virtualization
