Key Responsibilities
1. Menu Development
- Collaborate with the Head Chef to create and update seasonal menus that reflect local produce and culinary trends.
- Experiment with new recipes and techniques, ensuring that all dishes maintain high standards of taste and presentation.
2. Food Preparation and Cooking
- Prepare and cook a variety of dishes, ensuring adherence to recipe specifications and presentation standards.
- Maintain consistency in food quality and taste while managing multiple orders during busy service periods.
3. Kitchen Management
- Oversee kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, and plating.
- Ensure kitchen equipment is maintained, cleaned, and used properly, reporting any maintenance issues promptly.
4. Food Safety and Hygiene
- Uphold food safety and sanitation standards in compliance with health regulations.
- Monitor food storage practices to prevent spoilage and waste.
5. Staff Supervision and Training
- Assist in training and mentoring junior kitchen staff and apprentices, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Delegate tasks effectively to ensure smooth kitchen operations during peak hours.
6. Inventory Management
- Assist in managing inventory, including ordering supplies and monitoring stock levels to minimize waste.
- Collaborate with suppliers to source high-quality ingredients while adhering to budgetary constraints.
7. Customer Interaction
- Engage with customers, taking feedback on dishes to enhance the dining experience.
- Participate in occasional events or promotions, showcasing signature dishes.
Qualifications
- Experience
- Proven experience as a Chef or Cook in a similar establishment.
- Strong knowledge of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures.
- Skills
- Excellent culinary skills with a creative flair for menu development.
- Strong leadership and communication skills to manage a diverse kitchen team.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
- Education
- At least should have Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery.
Working Conditions
- Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Ability to lift heavy items and stand for long periods.
