Fire Technician

Civil Fire is a medium-sized, family-owned company specialising in the inspection, testing and maintenance of fire protection systems across Sydney.
We're proud to be a fair, supportive employer, with a team of 35 staff from a wide range of practical backgrounds — electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical services and building surveying.
We currently service more than 1,400 residential strata buildings throughout the Sydney metropolitan area.
The OpportunityWe're seeking a Fire Service Technician to join our ITMS (Inspect, Test, Maintain, Service) team. This is a hands-on, mobile role working across different strata properties each day.
The role includes:
- Inspecting and maintaining fire protection equipment in accordance with AS1851 (smoke alarms, exit and emergency lighting, fire doors, hydrants, hose reels, extinguishers, passive measures, sprinkler systems, pumpsets, etc.)
- Working primarily in residential apartment buildings, knocking on unit doors and interacting comfortably with residents
- Travelling between multiple sites daily
- Completing minor repairs (smoke alarm batteries, light tubes, etc.)
- Recording results accurately on Uptick.
- Delivering excellent customer service
Knowledge of Uptick (fire compliance software) is useful but not essential. Training will be provided.
This role offers long-term development and can lead to a full and rewarding career as an accredited Fire Safety Assessor.
Who We're Looking ForYou don't need to come from a trade or have fire industry experience — we're happy to train the right person from scratch.
All you need is reliability, a good attitude, and a willingness to learn.
Backgrounds that often transition well into this role include people who are practical or hands-on, such as those with experience around pumps, electrical work, plumbing/sprinkler systems, carpentry, or general building maintenance.
But these are helpful only — not essential.
You will thrive in this role if you are:- Punctual, well presented and reliable
- Comfortable interacting with residents and building managers
- Able to work independently and in teams
- Are confident driving in Sydney - you'll work all over.
- Interested in compliance and learning AS1851 and fire safety requirements.
- Excellent hourly rate + some overtime
- Full-time hours (Mon–Fri, 6:45am–3:15pm)
- Company vehicle or weekly car allowance
- RDOs, annual leave, sick leave
- Smartphone, uniform and tools
- Comprehensive training and career progression
- Current Driver's Licence
- NSW White Card (or equivalent)
