About the role

Western Health is seeking a visionary and collaborative leader to join our expanding Department of Medical Education as Director of Training – PGY3+ and International Medical Graduates (IMGs).

This key leadership role will shape the journey of doctors transitioning from prevocational to vocational training, and guide the professional growth of international medical graduates across Western Health.

Key responsibilities:

As Director of Training – PGY3+ and IMGs, you'll provide strategic and operational oversight for education, supervision and workforce development for senior residents and IMGs across our hospitals.

You will:

  • Design and lead educational frameworks, workplace-based assessments (WBAs) and tailored transition programs.
  • Oversee training pathways for PGY3+, Senior Resident Medical Officers (SRMOs), and unaccredited registrars across Medicine, Surgery, Critical Care and General Practice.
  • Ensure IMG supervision meets AHPRA and AMC standards.
  • Collaborate with Divisional Education Leads, Term Supervisors and Deputy Directors of Training to deliver high-quality, multi-specialty education.
  • Support faculty development, mentorship and feedback systems.
  • Drive data-driven improvement through audits, surveys and performance metrics.
  • Promote trainee wellbeing, professional identity and career progression.

You'll report to the Program Director, Department of Medical Education, and lead a small team including Deputy Directors of Training in General Practice and Surgery.

About you:

You're an experienced clinical educator who's passionate about developing others and strengthening the quality of medical training. You bring expertise in supervision, curriculum implementation and trainee wellbeing.

Essential Criteria:

  • AHPRA registration with no restrictions.
  • Fellowship of a specialist college, with at least 3 years' post-fellowship experience.
    Current clinical appointment at Western Health EFT) or be able to obtain one.
  • Eligible to act as Principal Supervisor for IMGs under AHPRA.
  • Proven experience in prevocational or early vocational training.
  • Strong understanding of IMG regulatory requirements and support needs.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and collaboration skills.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience developing large, multispecialty training programs.
  • Background in Workplace-Based Assessment (WBA) design and delivery.
  • Postgraduate qualification or training in Medical Education.
