Brisbane, Queensland, Australia Wilson Architects Full time $80,000 - $120,000 per year

Position Description – Landscape Lead

Wilson Architects

The Opportunity

Wilson Architects is one of Australia's most respected design practices, with a legacy of award-winning projects across education, health, workplace, and community environments. Wilson Landscape extends this heritage, embedding landscape architecture and urban design into a fully integrated design practice.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead and grow the Wilson Landscape team. As Landscape Lead, you will set the direction for the landscape discipline within the practice - balancing hands-on design delivery with leadership, business development, and team mentorship.

You will collaborate closely with Wilson Architects' in-house experts in biodiversity, ecological systems, and environmental planning. Together, you will integrate ecological thinking into design outcomes and strengthen Wilson's interdisciplinary approach.

Purpose of the Role

The Landscape Lead is responsible for driving the strategic and operational success of Wilson Landscape while ensuring seamless integration with Wilson Architects. This role requires a balance of design leadership, client engagement, business development, technical expertise, and mentoring to deliver innovative, sustainable, and meaningful landscape outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategy & Integration

·      Develop and refine systems and processes that strengthen collaboration between Wilson Landscape and Wilson Architects.

·      Identify and drive new business development and partnership opportunities.

·      Prepare bid submissions, Expressions of Interest (EOIs), and fee proposals in collaboration with the Practice Delivery Manager.

·      Support the strategic growth and visibility of Wilson Landscape within the wider practice and industry.

2. Design & Delivery

·      Lead and contribute directly to the delivery of landscape architecture projects across all phases.

·      Manage and coordinate the delivery of projects of all scales, including complex multi-disciplinary projects- overseeing resourcing, programs, and budgets to ensure deadlines are met.

·      Contribute to day-to-day project delivery, including updates to CAD drawings and documentation, to support the team.

·      Oversee project delegation, ensuring staff are effectively resourced, mentored, and supported.

·      Provide quality assurance (QA) across all landscape deliverables.

·      Engage directly with clients, communities, and First Nations stakeholders to deliver culturally sensitive and inclusive outcomes.

·      Guide the use of digital tools (Revit, Archicad, AutoCAD, BIM, GIS, parametric design) to strengthen documentation and collaboration.

·      Monitor project scope, fees, and deliverables to ensure alignment with client expectations and budgets.

3. Leadership & Mentorship

·      Mentor, nurture, and up-skill team members through active coaching and development opportunities.

·      Champion collaboration and shared learning across the Landscape and Architecture teams.

·      Foster a positive, inclusive, and design-driven culture across the practice.

·      Represent Wilson Landscape in the broader industry through design awards, publications, and thought leadership initiatives.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

·      Implementation of effective systems and processes that streamline workflow between Landscape

and Architecture teams.

·      Growth in project pipeline and successful conversion of new business opportunities.

·      Timely and high-quality preparation of bids and EOIs.

·      Staff engagement and retention, demonstrated through feedback and performance reviews.

·      Consistent delivery of high-quality, design-led landscape outcomes on time and within budget.

·      Positive client satisfaction and repeat business.

Skills & Experience

·      Registered Landscape Architect with the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) or international equivalent.

·      Minimum 10+ years of relevant experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.

·      Strong design and technical documentation expertise.

·      Hands-on approach and willingness to engage in day-to-day design delivery.

·      Proven ability in project management, fee tracking, and QA processes.

·      Deep understanding of sustainability frameworks (e.g., Green Star, ISCA, water-sensitive design).

·      Demonstrated experience in business development, including bid and EOI preparation.

·      Excellent communication, leadership, and mentoring skills.

Salary & Benefits

This is a senior leadership position. Benefits include:

·      Opportunities for national and international conference attendance.

·      Structured Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

·      Internal leadership training and mentoring.

·      Career progression within a nationally recognised design practice.

Values & Culture

At Wilson Architects, we value collaboration, design excellence, and client focus. The Landscape Lead embodies these values - fostering strong internal relationships, championing interdisciplinary design, and building long-term partnerships with clients and peers.
