About the role

  • Provide expert policy advice on awards, agreements and conditions
  • Analyse industrial instruments and employment conditions
  • Negotiate and draft compliant employment terms
  • Deliver reports on conditions, trends and industrial action
  • Advocate in disputes and represent in tribunals

The Industrial Officer is primarily responsible to research, analyse and draft industrial issues, instruments and related documentation. In this context, the role provides advice, prepares correspondence and negotiates for Agency employees on diverse industrial relations issues which requires timely resolution and reflects government policy and Departmental priorities.

About you

  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills to navigate sensitive or contentious matters effectively.
  • Good interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate with colleagues and build relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Effective negotiation and influencing skills to deliver advice with clarity and integrity.
  • Ability to act independently in performing core work functions and liaise with supervisor regarding non-routine work or contentious industrial issues that may have far reaching implications
  • Accountable for the quality, integrity and validity of briefings, other written and verbal advice
  • Uses a wide range of appropriate sources to inform decision making which leads to a resolution of issues.
  • Awareness of department policies and procedures concerning industrial relations.

Essential requirements of the role

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as Industrial Relations, Law, HR and/or demonstrated equivalent knowledge, skills and experience, including experience in industrial relations and union engagement.

  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
