The legal team is part of Ascott's Corporate Business Unit under the supervision of the General Counsel. An opportunity is now available for a talented lawyer to fill a legal counsel role and to provide general legal support and advice to the business as required.

About the role

• To support the General Counsel and General Manager - Growth, in the preparation and negotiation of offers to Lease and ancillary documents for new serviced apartment accommodation developments and furniture procurement contracts;

• To assist in the preparation and negotiation of Management Agreements and Technical Advisory Agreements for Ascott properties,

• To provide advice in relation to property related matters, to prepare and negotiate consultancy agreements and confidentiality agreements

• To support the Chief Finance and Commercial Officer with tax and compliance issues, corporate structure matters, review of agreements, submissions to the ATO and information required for audits.

• To support the General Counsel with regards to litigation matters.

• To support the General Counsel, Senior Legal Counsel, Chief Marketing & Digital Officer and General Manager - Sales in relation to brand and sales related matters including Privacy Act compliance, accommodation tender responses, supply agreements, protection of intellectual property, compliance with ACCC requirements, negotiation of commercial agreements etc.

• To support the General Counsel in matters regarding the Foreign Investments and Review Board including exemption certificates and register of foreign ownership.

• Provide autonomous, high quality legal services to Ascott Australia assisting the business to achieve its strategic goals, manage risks and protect the brand.

About you

• Minimum 5 years' experience with a well-regarded law firm or in-house organisation.

• Demonstrated experience in drafting lease documents is required.

• Demonstrated experience in advising on a broad range of commercial issues and negotiating commercial agreements.

• Working knowledge of franchising law is an advantage, but is not required.

• Knowledge of the operation of an accommodation / hotel business would be an advantage, but is not required.
