Australia Optus Full time $120,000 - $180,000 per year

Optus is an Australian telecommunications company, delivering more than 11 million services to our customers every day across mobile, broadband and digital solutions.

We're looking for a visionary leader to join our Transport & IP Engineering team as Senior Director, IP Infrastructure Planning. This role is central to shaping the strategic direction of our IP Core, IP Metro Access, IP Services, IP SDN & Tooling, and IP Delivery domains.

You'll drive long-term infrastructure and investment planning, ensuring our network evolves in a scalable, resilient, and cost-efficient way. With a strong commercial mindset, you'll translate enterprise investment goals into actionable engineering roadmaps, optimise vendor partnerships, and champion innovation across the IP network.

What You'll Do

  • Lead strategic infrastructure planning to support future network evolution and enterprise objectives.
  • Collaborate with architecture, strategy, and commercial teams to prioritise investments and develop scalable growth plans.
  • Identify and leverage cross-Networks commercial benefits, including vendor incentives and discount opportunities.
  • Manage high-level vendor relationships focused on technology alignment and long-term value creation.
  • Engage with vendor product teams to assess emerging trends, cost efficiencies, and operational improvements.
  • Drive transformation initiatives that enhance automation, cost efficiency, and service performance.
  • Represent IP Engineering in enterprise and industry forums, influencing technology investment decisions.
  • Ensure infrastructure planning aligns with regulatory, financial, and operational requirements.
  • Lead strategic resource planning and support contract/SOW development to ensure clear and achievable delivery outcomes.

What You Bring

  • A background in engineering or commerce, with a strong understanding of telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Proven success in strategic planning, commercial strategy, and investment governance within complex environments.
  • Strong financial acumen, including experience with financial modelling, business case development, and TCO analysis.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence at executive levels.
  • Deep knowledge of IP and transport technologies, and how to apply them for optimal network performance and cost efficiency.
  • A track record of leading cross-functional transformation initiatives and driving innovation.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to align diverse stakeholders.
  • A customer-focused mindset and a proactive approach to problem-solving and compliance.

The good stuff….

  • Competitive remuneration and employee discounts. Make life easier (and more affordable) with $80 monthly credit and 25% off Optus products and unique shopping discounts with our retail partners.
  • Flexible working arrangements with opportunities to work three days in the office, two days remote or home.
  • Vibrant and collaborative office campus that includes cafes, convenience store, chill out zones, GP, post office, gym and on-site childcare centre.
  • Competitive leave policies, including additional 'Connected' days to focus on culture, family, health, community, or whatever's important to you.
  • We support growing families with inclusive, carer-neutral paid Parental Leave of up to 16 weeks.
  • Direct your own development and build future-ready skills with Optus U's industry-focused micro-credentials, developed with La Trobe and Macquarie Universities.
  • Build meaningful connections through employee-led networks and diversity initiatives including Culture Connect, Elevate Women, Disability Network and Express Yourself (LGBTQIA+).
  • Put your wellbeing first with free access to counselling and support services, 24/7 — in-person, by phone, SMS, or video.

At Optus, we are strengthened by others and that means valuing diversity and saying 'yes' to embracing individual differences. We are committed to ensuring that our application process provides an equal employment opportunity to all job seekers, including individuals from diverse gender, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, individuals with a disability, individuals identifying as being part of the LGBTQIA+ community, individuals who may have served in the armed forces or who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
