Senior Policy Officer, Whole of Victorian Government (WoVG) Coherence

The Role

As a Senior Policy Officer, you will be responsible for developing strategic policy, reporting on whole of Victorian Government initiatives that impact the Skills and TAFE portfolio and writing briefs to support the Minister for Skills and TAFE's participation in Cabinet. You will establish and maintain relationships with program areas across Skills and Employment and wider Victorian Government. You will develop a strong understanding of strategic issues impacting the Skills and TAFE sector and how the sector can support Victoria's economic growth and productivity. This role requires well developed policy and stakeholder management skills.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Strategically support and lead strategy and policy work relating to Whole-of-Victorian-Government strategic policy projects.
  • Advise on policy settings to support the efficient and effective operation of Skills and TAFE sector.
  • Provide high level strategic advice with a long-term view that supports the government to future-proof key policy settings for the training and higher education sectors.
  • Manage the preparation of Cabinet submissions, complex briefs, correspondence, and reports
  • Manage relationships with central agencies and stakeholders across the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions and other departments to inform policy development and implementation.

The Team

The position of Senior Policy Officer will work across Policy and Strategy branch, which sits within Skills and Employment group.

Skills and Employment group focuses on enabling Victorians to gain access to skills and employment opportunities and helping to support a strong pipeline of workers to meet Victoria's skills needs, now and into the future.

We work in collaboration across government with industry and community to deliver skills-focused solutions that leverage the opportunities in the economy and drive improved workforce outcomes across all levels of the skills and training system.

We oversee the Victorian Vocational Education and Training (VET) system with a specific focus on ensuring the delivery of quality outcomes through TAFEs through the Office of TAFE Coordination and Delivery, informed by our partnership with the Victorian Skills Authority.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and experience:
