About the RoleWe are seeking a motivated and hands-on Trades Assistant/Labourer to support our security technicians with the installation and maintenance of electronic security solutions. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys a practical, hands-on work environment and is looking to build a career in the electronic security industry.
The successful candidate will assist with hardware tasks, system upgrades, and maintenance duties across construction sites and other project locations. This position involves both team-based work and independent tasks, providing the opportunity to learn on the job while taking ownership of daily responsibilities
This position not only covers day-to-day labouring and trade support duties, but also serves as a pathway into the electronic security trade. For the right candidate, FSR offers structured on-the-job training and mentoring, providing a clear progression toward a formal traineeship and long-term career as a qualified technician.
Your Day-to-Day- Start your day at the FSR Head Office in Mawson Lakes, where you'll collect your allocated work vehicle, tools of trade, and any required stock or equipment for scheduled jobs.
- Receive your daily dispatch — this may include servicing existing systems, assisting with installations on construction sites, or setting up temporary security solutions at new projects.
- Travel to various client sites across South Australia, working both independently and alongside skilled technicians.
- Carry out tasks such as mounting equipment, running cabling, changing batteries, lifting and positioning gear, and performing routine maintenance checks.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed, ensure deadlines are met, and return to base at the end of the day with tools and vehicle ready for the next shift.
- Assist technicians in the installation and servicing of electronic security systems on active construction sites.
- Independently complete assigned duties with clear daily deadlines.
- Maintain FSR's tools, vehicles, and security equipment to ensure reliability.
- Support both permanent and temporary security solutions used for construction projects and client sites.
- Follow site safety procedures and represent FSR professionally at all times when interacting with clients and contractors.
Experience:
Competency in using basic tools such as drills, saws, and measuring equipment.
- Familiarity with construction, trade, or building tasks.
- Electrical knowledge or prior industry experience is preferred but not essential.
Physical Ability:
Must be able to lift and manoeuvre items over 10kg, including above-shoulder level.
- Comfortable working in physical environments and around construction activities.
Certification:
White Card (mandatory).
- Additional tickets such as Forklift, Scissor Lift, or Working at Heights are highly regarded — please list in your resume if applicable.
Driving Skills:
Current driver's licence with the ability to operate a manual vehicle.
- Ability to tow a trailer is required for this role.
Professionalism:
Positive and reliable attitude with excellent communication skills.
- Ability to represent FSR to clients, contractors, and site managers in a professional manner.
Independence & Motivation:
Strong self-management and time-management skills.
- Ability to problem solve and complete tasks independently when required.
Willingness to Learn:
Keen to expand knowledge of electronic security systems and progress in the trade.
- Open to ongoing training and skill development.
- Primary Worksites: Majority of work will take place on construction sites throughout South Australia, with occasional assignments in residential and commercial environments.
- Work Vehicle & Tools: All required tools of trade and a work vehicle will be provided.
- Hours: Full-time position with standard weekday hours. Occasional weekend work may be required, but this is rare.
- Conditions: This role is subject to medical and physical clearance. Regular and random drug and alcohol testing is part of FSR's compliance standards.
