Westside Bus Company Pty Ltd specialises in providing School, Urban, and Charter bus services in the Redbank and surrounding areas. We are currently seeking a Workshop Supervisor with trade qualification in heavy vehicle mechanic to join our Redbank maintenance team.

About the role

The role of the Workshop Supervisor is, but not limited to:

  • Support the maintenance staff in their role of managing the Pulitano Group's fleet of vehicles.

  • Perform the duties of a mechanic.

  • Perform duties as requested to support the Workshop Manager.

  • Support in-house workshop trade staff are carrying out maintenance and repair to a level that ensures bus safety and roadworthiness.

Primary duties and responsibilities include:

  • To adhere to and always manage compliance with Work Health and Safety Policies and Safe Work Procedures (JSAs). Identify potential safety hazards and takes appropriate action to ensure personnel safety;

  • Coordination of vehicle maintenance, repair and inspections as per company policy and manufacturers procedures to achieve compliance with TMR and Federal regulations;

  • Organises for the on-time procurement of parts, supplies, tools and machinery;

  • Ensures that all outsourced services engaged are initiated per the policy;

  • Administers periodic inspections of maintenance records to ensure compliance and accuracy of documentation, filing and records are accurate, up-to-date and auditable by Department of Transport;

  • Provides leadership to workshop supervisors and trades personnel, ensuring they have the instruction, tools and resources to achieve their objectives.

  • Ensure compliance with expenditure limits as details in Purchasing Policy;

  • Management of depot vehicle requirements and availability;

  • Work proactively with the Maintenance Manager in maintaining and improving availability of the fleet;

  • Be available to assist and advise with after-hours enquiries, breakdowns, on-road issues;

  • Ensure vehicle preventative maintenance and repair work is conducted in accordance with the manufacturer's requirements and specifications;

  • Ensure parts requisitions and goods receipting complies with Procurement Operations Manual;

  • Maintain fuel, oil and other critical operations consumables to agreed minimum/maximum stock levels;

  • Coordinate periodic parts stocktakes;

  • Prepare and present maintenance/vehicle reports at weekly Operations meetings;

  • Schedule all maintenance activities;

  • Ensure defect reports are actioned and repairs are recorded in the ERP;

  • Abide by the requirements in the Management Information System and Maintenance Management System;

  • Scheduling of vehicle inspections;

  • Scheduling of annual bus inspections;

  • Ensure repairs and maintenance are conducted in accordance with the Manufacturer's specifications, National Heavy Vehicle Inspection Manual and any applicable legislation or vehicle standards;

  • Conduct vehicle safety inspections;

  • Maintain the depot in a safe condition;

  • Conduct monthly workshop safety inspections and report all hazards;

  • Ensure all staff carry out tasks in accordance with the relevant JSA;

  • Work in accordance with safe working procedures and instructions and comply with the accredited bus operator's Management Information System;

  • Not be impaired by alcohol or drugs immediately before, or while, performing bus safety work;

  • Report all health issues or other issues that may affect their fitness to work;

  • Follow policies, procedures and safety instructions;

  • Wear all personal protective equipment (PPE) as issued by the operator or pertinent to the job;

  • Participate in training and staff meetings as required.

Skills and experience

To be successful candidates will need to demonstrate:

  • Experience in leading a heavy vehicle workshop;

  • Qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Trade;

  • Experience in fleet management and preventative maintenance programs;

  • Problem solving skills, strategic thinker, attention to detail;

  • Experience and knowledge of Department of Transport legislation including inspections and compliance audits (preferred);

  • Intermediate computer skills – ERP systems and Microsoft Office suite;

  • Hold a valid MR/HR licence;

  • Strong Diagnosis Skills;

  • Experience on Volvo and Scania Chassis (preferred).
