The Opportunity

We're partnering with an ambitious, fast-scaling Australian fintech that's building category-defining products in a complex and rapidly evolving financial services environment. With a unique operating model and major national partnerships already in place, the business is now ready to bring on its first dedicated Compliance and Risk Lead to help secure their next phase of growth.

This is a rare opportunity to own the function end-to-end, shape compliance from the ground up, and play a critical role in securing the organisation's AFSL and long-term regulatory maturity.

The Role

As the business continues to scale, you'll take the lead in building out a robust risk and compliance environment. You'll work closely with senior leadership across Legal, Finance, and Technology, operating in an environment that moves fast, stays agile, and values clear thinking.

You will:

  • Drive and finalise the AFSL application, then manage obligations going forward.
  • Design and implement core risk & compliance frameworks across the business.
  • Review and approve processes to ensure ongoing regulatory alignment.
  • Act as a key governance figure, championing efficiencies and embedding best practice.
  • Quickly assess the current state and build a roadmap for future compliance maturity.
  • Partner closely with senior stakeholders on risk considerations for new products, partnerships, and expansion into broader B2B financial services.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally on data security initiatives, including SOC 2 and broader privacy frameworks.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong understanding of AFSL requirements, ideally with hands-on experience acquiring or managing.
  • Proven experience building and maturing compliance frameworks.
  • Ability to operate confidently in a dynamic, lightly structured environment.
  • A self-starter who can own the function end-to-end and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including at board level.
