About Us
The Victorian Ombudsman (VO) provides a free, independent, accessible and impartial service to the public. Our purpose is to ensure fairness for the public in their dealings with the Victorian public sector, to improve public administration, and engage within both public organisations, the government sector and the broader community. The Ombudsman Act 1973 (Vic) is the governing legislation.
The VO's role is to ensure that the services of state and local government, and other public organisations are delivered in a fair and reasonable manner that is compatible with the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006 (Vic) and that human rights have been taken into consideration in decision making.
About this role:
Working collaboratively in the Engagement, Education and Prevention team, the Engagement Officer reflects the Ombudsman's commitment to work constructively with the public sector to improve public administration.
The Engagement Officer is responsible for increasing the Victorian public's knowledge and understanding of the Ombudsman's role and services in resolving complaints about government organisations.
In line with VO's Strategic Plan 2025–29, the Engagement Officer is responsible for upholding frameworks and conducting activities that promote the Victorian Ombudsman's services and community engagement through online or in-person forums and events. Working closely with the Ombudsman, the Engagement Officer produces impactful materials that support these engagements.
Key to this role is the ability to demonstrate exceptional relationship building skills to develop internal foundations for collaboration and awareness-raising activities with key external community organisations.
Prioritising communities experiencing marginalisation, plays a key role in improving the Victorian Ombudsman's engagement with community legal centres, First Nations organisations and other communities underrepresented in the VO's work.
