Short-Term Contract: Senior Storage Infrastructure Specialist

We are looking for an experienced Senior Storage Infrastructure Specialist
to
optimize and enhance our
federal client
Dell PowerScale and Isilon environment
, ensuring maximum performance, efficiency, and scalability. This role is pivotal in supporting a
petabyte-scale storage platform
designed for high-throughput media ingest, editing, archival, and retrieval.

Skills & Experience

  • Expert-level experience
    with Dell PowerScale and Isilon
  • Proven ability to
    design, administer, and optimize enterprise-scale storage environments
    for high-performance workloads.
  • Strong understanding of
    scale-out NAS architecture
    , storage tiering, and data services.
  • Demonstrated experience in
    documenting complex environments
    and creating operational runbooks.
  • Excellent
    communication skills
    for presenting technical findings to diverse stakeholders.
  • Scripting proficiency
    (Python/Bash) for automation and data analysis is highly desirable.

Essential Criteria

  1. Extensive experience in
    designing, administering, and optimizing Dell PowerScale and Isilon environments
    for large-scale, high-performance workflows.
  2. Strong ability to
    translate technical findings into actionable recommendations
    , supported by clear documentation and stakeholder engagement.
  3. Proven troubleshooting skills for
    multi-protocol (SMB/NFS) storage systems
    , ensuring stability, performance, and data integrity.
  4. Comprehensive knowledge of
    storage security, data protection, and lifecycle management
    , including hardening, access controls, replication, and backup/recovery strategies.

Desirable

  • Automation and scripting skills
    (Python/Bash) for operational efficiency and data analysis.

Key Responsibilities & Deliverables

  • Conduct a
    comprehensive technical audit
    of the current storage architecture, assessing operational health, risks, and providing strategic recommendations.
  • Develop
    detailed architecture diagrams
    illustrating cluster configuration, storage tiering, and data services.
  • Create
    operational runbooks
    for administration, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance.
  • Deliver
    capacity and growth forecasts
    with actionable recommendations for scalability and efficient utilization.
  • Facilitate
    structured knowledge transfer sessions
    with ICT staff to ensure operational continuity.

Technical Scope

  • Review and optimize
    storage cluster configurations
    , including all-flash, archive, and legacy nodes.
  • Analyze and fine-tune
    PowerScale data services
    (SmartPools, SnapshotIQ, SyncIQ, tiering strategies).
  • Identify and resolve
    performance bottlenecks
    across metadata, I/O, and protocol-level throughput (SMB/NFS).
  • Recommend
    architectural improvements
    for performance, reliability, and utilization.
  • Produce
    clear documentation
    for implementation and ongoing maintenance.

  • Australian Citizenship

    on-site in ACT
