They believe in building and setting a reputable culture, recognising, and rewarding their people who represent those core values either onsite, with clients, or in the local communities.
A Transmission Stringing Engineer plays a critical and highly specialised role in the construction of high-voltage transmission lines — the massive powerlines that carry electricity over hundreds of kilometers from power stations to substations and, ultimately, to homes and businesses. These projects are among the most complex in the energy sector, and the stringing engineer is central to one of the most challenging phases: installing the conductors.
The conductors are not ordinary wires — they are extremely large, heavy, and strong cables designed to handle voltages ranging from 66kV up to 500kV or more. These conductors often span kilometers between towers, crossing rivers, highways, mountains, and farmland. Installing them requires precision engineering, advanced planning, and strict control of safety and quality.
The Transmission Stringing Engineer's main responsibility is to ensure these conductors are installed safely, accurately, and efficiently. This is far more complex than simply pulling a wire from one tower to the next. It involves:
Detailed engineering calculations to determine sag and tension so the wires neither hang too low (creating hazards for people, vehicles, or vegetation) nor pull too tight (which could overstress towers or cause snapping under load).
Planning specialised methods for different terrains and obstacles, such as using helicopters to carry conductors across inaccessible areas, or designing temporary protection systems when crossing existing roads, railways, or powerlines.
Supervising crews and equipment on site, ensuring the use of heavy machinery such as tensioners, pullers, and winches is coordinated and controlled.
Monitoring productivity, budgets, and schedules, since stringing is often a critical path activity in major transmission projects.
Implementing strict safety procedures, as the risks of conductor recoil, equipment failure, and working at heights are significant.
In short, a Transmission Stringing Engineer is not only a technical expert but also a leader and decision-maker in the field, bridging the gap between the design team and the construction crews. They must ensure that the final installation matches engineering specifications, meets regulatory standards, and will operate reliably for decades under harsh weather and loading conditions.
Without their expertise, the risk of costly mistakes, dangerous failures, or project delays is extremely high. This makes the Transmission Stringing Engineer one of the most vital roles in the delivery of safe, efficient, and long-lasting power infrastructure.
This position comes with good financial reward and incentives. If you are interested in being part of the CoMade team, please submit your resume outlining your relevant experience and why you are the ideal candidate for this position.
At CoMade, we value diversity and are an equal opportunity employer. We encourage applications from all suitably qualified individuals. All applicants must have full working rights in Australia.
