Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled
Transmission Engineer
to support the migration of legacy transmission networks to next-generation optical communication systems. The role requires in-depth experience in SDH, DWDM, Ethernet, ASON, and Layer 0/Layer 1 technologies, along with hands-on expertise in network migration strategies, tools, and implementation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and document existing legacy transmission networks, including SDH, DWDM, Ethernet, ASON, and associated services and dependencies.
  • Design migration strategies and timelines to modernize legacy networks to newer packet/optical platforms (e.g., DWDM, OTN, MPLS, MPLS-TP).
  • Perform traffic cutovers, rerouting, and commissioning activities with minimal service disruption.
  • Coordinate with network operation teams, vendors, and customers to ensure seamless transitions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues during and post-migration phases.
  • Perform acceptance testing and validation after migration.
  • Maintain accurate records and update network inventory/databases post-migration.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Strong understanding of SDH/SONET systems, network elements (e.g., STM-1/4/16/64), and associated protocols.
  • Expertise in DWDM, Ethernet, ASON, and packet optical transport networks (Layer 0/Layer 1) SDH protection (SNCP, MSP,MS-SP ring).
  • Experience with vendors like
    Nokia, Huawei, Ciena, Cisco, Alcatel-Lucent, Tejas, ECI, Tellabs, Juniper, Arrista and Marconi
    .
  • Hands-on experience with NMS tools and element management systems.
  • Proficiency in service provisioning, cutover planning, and impact analysis.
  • Ability to interpret network diagrams, fiber plans, and logical schematics.
  • Experience in legacy network migration to modern optical systems is a strong plus.
  • Preferred with experience in
    script preparation
    and
    automation
    for network configuration and migration activities.

Educational Qualifications:

  • B.E./B.Tech.
    in Electronics, Telecommunications, or related field.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work in high-pressure, time-critical environments.
  • Willingness to travel or work during non-standard hours as required.
