What you'll be doing

This exciting Level 4 Senior Genetic Counsellor role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to both clinical excellence and cutting-edge research in paediatric and adolescent cancer genetics. The successful candidate will dedicate 0.6 FTE to clinical duties, including supporting the mainstreaming of genetic testing in cancer care for children and adolescents/young adults (AYA), and providing expert genetic counselling to patients and their families. The remaining 0.4 FTE will be focused on research leadership in partnership with the Children's Cancer Institute as part of the national ZERO Childhood Cancer Precision Medicine Program. As ZERO expands to include patients up to 25 years of age based on cancer type, the Senior Genetic Counsellor will play a pivotal role in shaping the next phase of precision oncology research and implementation.

This senior position within the Kids Cancer Centre is responsible for leading a team of genetic counsellors, as well as carrying a clinical caseload. Management responsibilities include the planning, monitoring and review of services provided by the team, workload management, supervision of team members, and coordinating professional development of team members. In addition, this position includes a support/consultancy role for counsellors employed by affiliated services to which the department provides clinical input.

This position requires advanced clinical reasoning skills and high level professional knowledge and judgement. The successful applicant needs to be able to work with initiative and autonomy in consultation with medical staff and other health professionals and providing clinical supervision and support as part of a multidisciplinary team

About You

We're looking for someone who:

• Completed Part 2 Certification in Genetic Counselling certified by the Human Genetics Society of Australasia (HGSA)
• Extensive hospital based genetic counsellor experience working with infants, children, pregnant women and adults with, or at risk of genetic disorders, and in psychosocial support to children and families
• Advanced practical knowledge, organizational and clinical reasoning skills in the areas of Prenatal and Neurogenetics services
• Recognised ability to communicate effectively
