The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking an Aboriginal Recruitment Business Partner within our Recruitment Services Team.

This is a prioritised role for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, who will be given priority consideration as per the special measures provision of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.

About the Business Unit

The Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) provides a range of government programs and services which focus on improving community safety, victim services, regulatory services and crime prevention, and building strong collaboration across the justice system.

DJCS oversees functions including Aboriginal Justice, Victim Support, Justice Services, Family Violence, Justice Operations, Regional Services Network, Corrections, Youth Justice, Emergency Management, Police and Crime Prevention, Regulation, Corporate Services, Justice Coordination, and Workplace Safety Policy.

The People, Safety, Culture and Communications (PSCC) group supports the department in workplace culture and people matters, including strategic communications, human resource policy and strategy; organisational culture and change; recruitment and retention; performance and development; pay, benefits and workforce reporting; safety and wellbeing; workplace relations; and employee conduct. PSCC promotes a culture to engage and develop the workforce, providing every person with the opportunity to unlock and achieve their potential.

The People Services branch oversees payroll and workforce operations, HR Systems and Reporting, HR Assist, executive service management and Recruitment Services across both frontline and non-frontline roles, in the delivery of HR operational outcomes.

The Recruitment Services and Talent Programs team provides expert advice and support to the department on all recruitment related matters, including attraction, selection, redeployment and other recruitment and retention practices. Recruitment Services delivers consultative, progressive, innovative, fair and ethical recruitment solutions.   • Campaign Recruitment - Corrections Victoria and Youth Justice

  • Executive Recruitment

  • Campaign Recruitment
  • Employment Marketing
  • Recruitment Operations including security checks
  • Employment Programs, and
  • Redeployment

About the role:

Reporting to the Assistant Manager, the Aboriginal Recruitment Business Partner you will be responsible for managing the end-to-end recruitment process, and work with hiring managers across the department to understand their recruitment needs. Ensuring that target hires are achieved within the talent delivery team and Campaigns portfolios for all prioritised, identified, designated and un-identified roles are achieved across the department.

As a trusted adviser, the department relies on the Business Partner to guide them through the complexities of recruiting to the varied and unique roles, across a varied portfolio.

You will contribute specialist advice to regional stakeholders at all levels on Aboriginal cultural issues, employment related policies and legislation that impact on the Victorian Aboriginal community and be a strong advocate for the Department of Justice and Community Safety.

The Aboriginal Recruitment Business Partner is accountable for effectively partnering with their regional stakeholders to deliver end to end or part services recruitment support and supports end to end Aboriginal recruitment of business-critical roles across Aboriginal Justice portfolio, Campaign Recruitment - Corrections Victoria, Youth Justice and Talent Delivery portfolio that supports various stakeholders across the business including the Aboriginal Workforce Unit.

This role will require travel across regional Victoria and is based out of the Melbourne office.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide professional recruitment consulting services to hiring managers, candidates and staff.
  • Provide accurate and timely advice to internal and external stakeholders on the recruitment process, relevant policies, best practice recruitment methodologies and legislative requirements.
  • Undertake the full recruitment lifecycle including job briefing, advertising, sourcing, shortlisting, interviewing, background checking and offer management.
  • Contribute specialist advice and expertise to regional stakeholders at all levels and the Recruitment Services Unit, People and Culture on Aboriginal cultural issues, employment related policies and legislation that impact on the Victorian Aboriginal community to ensure that target hires and vacancy management across Corrections Victoria is delivered and maintained.
  • Provide specialist advice on the development of job descriptions, assessment material and post assessment processes for Aboriginal prioritised and designated positions.
  • Engage proactively and maintain relationships across other areas of DJCS and external stakeholders to identify and resolve complex or sensitive issues relating to polices, programs and service delivery.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal Community, both society and culture and the issues impacting on it.
  • A demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Victorian Aboriginal Community.
  • Experience managing the end-to-end recruitment process, with a diverse stakeholder group to meet operational demand and deliver consistent and quality recruitment service in Aboriginal employment context.
  • Experience in recruitment business partnering to meet operational demands.
