About the job
To promote and enable the commercial objectives and operations of the retail divisions, and the broader group, through the provision of expert, pragmatic legal advice and guidance, maximising commercial opportunities, protecting legal rights, and minimising legal exposures
Partnering with senior management across multiple divisions, you will advise on matters including consumer protection, intellectual property disputes, regulatory investigations, privacy, data protection and competition law,. The role also supports global operations, with a focus on IP protection and compliance in overseas jurisdictions, while managing disputes, investigations, and other complex regulatory matters.
Key responsibilities
- Guide internal stakeholders on legal issues including consumer protection, IP, privacy and competition law.
- Provide expert advice on regulatory matters, commercial disputes, investigations, and compliance issues.
- Manage relationships with regulators and external counsel to ensure efficient dispute resolution.
- Proactively identify risks and develop strategies to mitigate legal exposure.
- Contribute to legal policy, training, and education across the business.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the broader corporate group to deliver high-quality legal support.
About you
You will provide pragmatic, high-quality legal advice across a wide range of retail regulatory and intellectual property and commercial dispute-related issues. You will have significant experience in the provision of commercial legal advice in a corporate environment, with a focus on advice in areas affecting retail businesses (including consumer protection and data protection laws) and the successful management of regulatory matters and disputes.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
:
- Law degree and current Australian Practising Certificate (mandatory)
- 10+ years PQE in commercial disputes, preferably within the retail industry
- Proven ability to resolve disputes on optimal terms in time-pressured environments
- Exceptional advocacy, contractual interpretation, and regulatory expertise
- Ability to provide clear, concise advice to senior stakeholders, including C-suite executives
