Primary objective
The Senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist will assist in the production and Quality Control (QC) of radiopharmaceuticals
and perform nuclear medicine procedures in the medical imaging department of the Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH), including
in the supervision and leadership of junior technologists. This role is trained and works in single photon nuclear medicine,
Positron Emission Tomography (PET), and radiopharmaceutical production and QC at the RDH cyclotron facility.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Undertake laboratory procedures, including the preparation of radiopharmaceuticals and their QC.
2. Interpret requests, obtain IV access, administer radiopharmaceuticals, and perform nuclear medicine procedures with
limited professional direction and supervision, in accordance with departmental policies and appropriate legislation.
- Provide extensive experience and actively participate in supervision, mentorship and training of students and junior staff.
- Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies, and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
5. Monitor equipment performance in the area of responsibility, including liaising with contractors for breakdown repairs
and routine maintenance scheduling.
6. Monitor consumables stock levels in the department and participate in ordering essential stock as required.
7. Involvement in developing and leading projects, co-ordinating specific service delivery areas and undertaking/evaluating
quality improvement activities.
8. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Degree in Medical Radiation Science or equivalent from a registered University which allows eligibility for registration
as a Nuclear Medicine Practitioner with the Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia.
2. Extensive experience in nuclear medicine procedures, including PET.
3. Experience in the supervision and leadership of junior staff members.
4. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with patients from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
Desirable
1. Experience in the QC of radiopharmaceuticals.
2. Experience with cassette-based PET radiopharmaceutical production.
3. Experience in paediatric medical imaging.
4. Qualification and experience in diagnostic Computer Tomography imaging.
