Are you a passionate and motivated Strings educator looking to guide a dynamic and high-performing strings program within one of Melbourne's leading independent schools? MLC is seeking an experienced Music Instructor /Strings Coordinator to inspire students, guide a dedicated team of music professionals, and contribute to the ongoing excellence of our vibrant Strings Program.
About the Role
The Strings Coordinator oversees the Strings program from Prep to Year 12, overseeing staff, ensembles, and performance opportunities. The role combines leadership and teaching responsibilities, ensuring the program delivers high-quality learning experiences and fosters student engagement in music across the College. Working closely with the Director and Deputy Director of Music, the Strings Coordinator plays a key role in shaping the vision and future direction of the Strings program.
Some of your primary duties and responsibilities will include the following:
- Coordinate all aspects of the Strings program, including staffing, ensemble development, and student participation.
- Lead and support a team of Strings teachers, fostering a collaborative and positive culture.
- Provide individual and group instrumental tuition and oversee developmental programs for Year 2 and Year 5 Strings.
- Lead and assist in ensemble rehearsals, concerts, camps, and other performance opportunities.
- Supervise student participation in College ensembles, ensuring consistent and transparent opportunities for all.
- Maintain and manage instruments, music resources, and databases, including organising repairs as needed.
- Build enrolments in the Strings area through promotion, concerts, and engagement with families.
- Coordinate AMEB exam preparation, scholarship applications, excursions, and eisteddfod participation.
- Contribute to the professional culture of the Music Department and uphold MLC's values of respect, responsibility, compassion, and courage.

About You
- A degree in music or instrumental education with performance and teaching expertise on at least one string instrument.
- Proven ability to lead a team with positivity, vibrancy, and accountability.
- Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Experience in teaching and ensemble direction across a broad range of styles and age groups.
- A passion for promoting music education and achieving quality music outcomes.
- Ability to engage collaboratively with colleagues, students, and families to build an inclusive and high-performing program.
- A current Working with Children Check.
- Be open to ideas, strive for excellence, and demonstrate a high level of integrity.
