Your new role

As a Support Worker – Therapeutic Residential Care, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality, therapeutic care to young people in residential settings. You will be the primary caregiver, ensuring their safety, wellbeing, and rights are always protected. With empathy, respect, and professionalism, you will support each young person's individual needs and development.

Acting as a positive role model, you will help them build life skills, manage relationships, and work toward personal goals. You will communicate effectively, collaborate within a supportive team environment, and uphold Uniting's values, policies, and commitment to child safety. Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including evenings and weekends, is essential.

Your skills and experience

We are seeking compassionate carers that have the ability to make positive connections with young people and enjoy working within a cohesive team dynamic.

You will bring:

  • A minimum qualification of Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention or other relevant recognised qualification.
  • If not included in your qualification, you will be required to complete the mandatory units of competency:
    • CHCMHS007 – Work effectively in trauma informed care
    • CHCPRT009 – Provide primary residential care
    • CHCCCS009 – Facilitate responsible behaviour
    • CHCPRT010 – Work with children and young people with complex trauma and attachment issues and needs
  • Current first aid level 2 (including CPR)
  • Current Victorian Driver's Licence
  • Experience in the residential and community services field and in the provision of care and support to children in 'out of home care' is desirable
  • Experience and demonstrated ability to work with young people who have experienced past trauma and abuse which may manifest in behavioural difficulties is desirable
