Who Are We Looking For?

We are seeking highly skilled and motivated Combat Systems Engineers to support the sustainment of integrated combat systems across the full Royal Australian Navy (RAN) surface fleet. This pivotal role is responsible for the design definition, development, integration, verification, and ongoing sustainment of combat system capabilities. This includes work on sensors, fire control systems, Combat Management Systems (CMS), and system-of-systems integration to ensure mission readiness and operational effectiveness in the maritime domain. The role ensures all combat system components meet Australian Defence Force (ADF) regulatory and technical standards, ensuring they are safe, interoperable, and effective.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert engineering leadership and advice on combat system design, integration, test and evaluation, and operational performance
• Conduct system assessments, performance analysis, and risk assessments to support design decisions and certification
• Drive engineering change management through Engineering Change Proposals, configuration control, test & evaluation, and readiness activities
• Lead or support integration and verification planning, including land-based and at-sea trials
• Develop and review critical engineering documentation such as Interface Control Documents (ICDs), system design specifications, and test reports
• Ensure engineering tasks align with the client's Engineering Management System (EMS), maintaining compliance and technical integrity throughout the project lifecycle
• Coordinate and participate in engineering forums such as Interface Control Working Groups, Configuration Control Boards, and System Safety Working Groups
• Support the development of technical proposals, stakeholder briefings, and sustainment strategies in collaboration with leadership teams.

Essential Criteria

• Bachelor's degree in engineering (Electrical, Systems, or related discipline)
• Proven experience with combat systems, preferably within the maritime or defence environment
• Sound understanding of systems engineering lifecycle, including integration, verification, and validation
• Demonstrated ability to work within Defence regulatory frameworks and engineering governance structures
• Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills
• NV1 Defence Clearance
• Due to the nature of the work and access to controlled technologies, the successful applicant must be eligible to access International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) controlled information. This typically requires the applicant to be an Australian citizen or hold the appropriate authorisation to access US export-controlled technology.

• Previous experience with ADF platforms or Defence industry programs
• Chartered Engineer EA
