The Opportunity

Our Western Port Manufacturing facility is looking for a Control Systems and SCADA/Automation Engineer in our Engineering team based in Hastings. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products Portfolio, we have four major manufacturing sites at Western Port which operate 24 x 7 and deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to export and domestic customers.

Reporting into the Automation Engineer Manager, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and improving fixed plant assets within the plant. Working within a multi-disciplinary team, your goal will be to enhance operational productivity, achieve asset improvement targets by eliminating defects, maintaining our automation systems, carrying out improvement initiatives, and fault-finding automation equipment to maintain line production.

What Will You Do?

Working in the Automation team to deliver on equipment maintenance and asset performance, you will:

  • provide automation control systems technical support, advanced problem-solving and fault-finding
  • conduct problem-solving and support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations to understand critical failures and implement improvement actions
  • implement asset and cost improvement projects
  • strive for business improvements and manufacturing excellence
  • assist with developing, maintaining and improving the maintenance strategy and capital project plans to increase reliability and minimise cost
  • assist to improve team effectiveness by identifying and closing technical knowledge gaps
  • build effective relationships to drive the continuous up time of our assets

 More About You

You will hold a degree qualification in Electrical Engineering/Mechatronics/Computer Systems combined with suitable experience in relevant. As a result, you will have:

  • tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering or Computer Systems engineering
  • a commitment to the safety and wellbeing of yourself, your team and others
  • experience working in an industry with a strong focus on defect elimination and equipment reliability  
  • experience with fault finding PLCs and motor control systems 
  • the ability to work both independently and as part of a manufacturing team, to influence peers and colleagues to meet operational requirements, scheduling and people demands
