Painter

Overview
The initial employment period is 12 months, at the end of which an opportunity will exist to enter a new contract for an ongoing permanent role.
Position Description
This is a role working within the trades and services department of the Melbourne Star, based in The District Docklands.
Initially the focus of work will be reactivating/refreshing the attraction, which is currently closed. Operating within a small team of technical tradespeople and engineers, the Painter will be expected to perform the following duties.
· Coordinate the Painting program.
· Prepare surfaces, including rust removal and priming.
· Measure, mix, and apply 2-pack industrial coatings – using brush, roller, and other methods (yet to be explored).
· Manage stock and supply of coatings and equipment.
· Oversea occasional painting works that are being performed by other staff members.
· Basic record keeping and administration.
· Be available to assist other teams with basic mechanical/technical works.
The majority of work will be on the steel structure of the wheel; however, an amount of painting will also be required elsewhere within the premises (internally and externally).
Occasional heavy lifting (within safe limits) will be required, and a reasonable level of fitness is essential.
It is our hope, once the attraction has reopened to the public, that the candidate will remain as a full-time employee – in a similar role, or elsewhere in the organisation.
It is important to note that the duties of this role will include working at heights of up to 70m, and occasional exposure to inclement weather. Further to which, the revitalisation program has a hard deadline of 12 months.
All relevant specialist training, certification, uniform, tools and equipment will be provided by MB Star.
The role is full-time (nominally 40 hours per week) and will include paid overtime. Specifics around wages and conditions, and working hours are yet to be established, however we expect the remuneration rate to be in line with similar delivery roles.
Conclusion
This singular, varied, and exciting role is a unique opportunity - which will suit motivated individuals who like to contribute to solving problems and delivering great outcomes.
