Criminal Defence Lawyer

We are seeking a dedicated and strategic Criminal Defence Lawyer to join our dynamic legal team. The successful candidate will represent clients charged with criminal offences, providing expert legal advice, advocacy, and representation at all stages of the criminal justice process.
You will be responsible for managing a diverse caseload, from summary and indictable matters to serious and complex criminal trials. This role requires exceptional analytical skills, sound judgment under pressure, and a strong commitment to justice and client care.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent clients in all criminal jurisdictions, including Local, District, and Supreme Courts.
- Provide legal advice and prepare legal documents, including bail applications, pleas, and trial submissions.
- Conduct case conferences, negotiations, and mediations with police prosecutors and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
- Review, analyse, and assess evidence and briefings from law enforcement and prosecution.
- Develop defence strategies tailored to the facts and legal issues of each case.
- Appear in court for mentions, hearings, and trials.
- Maintain professional communication with clients, counsel, and court officials.
- Ensure accurate and timely file management, documentation, and billing.
- Keep up to date with changes in criminal law, sentencing trends, and procedural rules.

Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD).
- Current practising certificate (unrestricted preferred).
- Minimum [1–5] years' post-admission experience in criminal law.
- Proven track record of advocacy in criminal courts.
- Arabic speaking
Desirable
- Experience briefing and instructing counsel.
- Knowledge of related areas such as traffic, domestic violence, or regulatory offences.
- Existing client base or referral network (advantageous but not essential).
