Brisbane, Queensland, Australia Law Staff Full time $104,000 - $130,878 per year

THE ROLE

This is a rare opportunity to take a senior position in an established practice with strong national support and a client base that includes major insurers, government clients, and prominent employers.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to rebuild and grow the QLD practice. This includes bringing in junior lawyers and leveraging existing support staff, such as paralegals, legal secretaries, and graduates.

The position is suitable for candidates aiming for a Special Counsel role with progression to partnership, as well as ambitious Senior Associates seeking a leadership role.

You will work across the full spectrum of employment and workplace law, including:

  • Employment and HR advisory matters
  • Industrial relations strategy
  • Unfair dismissal, discrimination, harassment, and workplace health and safety matters
  • Employment-related litigation and Employment Practices Liability (EPL) insurance claims

Additionally, you will have opportunities to broaden the practice beyond its current workflow, shape the local practice, lead marketing and branding initiatives, and grow a small team.

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS

The firm offers employees a wide range of benefits, ensuring there is something to suit everyone:

  • Flexible working arrangements to help balance work and personal commitments
  • Dress for your day, allowing employees to make choices that appropriately represent the firm
  • Continuous learning and development programs to ensure you are consistently challenged, engaged, and encouraged to grow
  • Health and wellness initiatives, including an Employee Assistance Program for you and your family, plus corporate discounts at over 400 leading fitness and wellbeing brands across Australia
  • Paid parental leave, with accreditation as a Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace
  • Mentoring program to support professional development
  • Diversity, inclusion, and equality initiatives, underpinned by a comprehensive Diversity and Inclusion policy and supported by employee reference groups including LGBTIQA+, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, Gender, Parents & Caregivers, Mature Workers, and Health & Wellbeing.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL

To be considered for Special Counsel level, you will have more than 10 years' post-admission experience specialising in a broad range of Workplace Relations matters and be seeking to assume a leadership role. You will have a proven ability to build and manage a team, grow a practice, and maintain strong client relationships. An entrepreneurial mindset and a genuine interest in shaping and leading a practice is essential. Experience working with government clients and handling Employment Practices Liability (EPL) insurance matters will be highly regarded.
