We're seeking a driven and commercially savvy Category Manager – Steel and Reinforcing to lead the strategy, sourcing, and performance of these core categories. This is a unique opportunity to shape the direction of one of Tasmania's leading suppliers to the construction and industrial markets, while working closely with suppliers, operations, and sales teams to deliver outstanding results.

About the Role

As Category Manager – Steel & Reinforcing, you'll manage the end-to-end performance of these categories, ensuring continuity of supply, competitive pricing, and strong commercial outcomes. The role combines supplier negotiations, import management, and supply chain coordination with close collaboration across sales and operations to meet customer and business needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of the Steel & Reinforcing category strategy, driving growth and profitability.
  • Shape the product range, pricing, and promotional approach based on market, competitor, and customer insights.
  • Build and maintain strong supplier partnerships, overseeing sourcing, negotiations, and international imports.
  • Ensure continuity of supply through effective demand forecasting, stock management, and operational planning.
  • Monitor performance through key metrics (sales, margin, stock turns) and provide actionable insights to the business.
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing to enable pricing strategies, campaigns, and customer engagement initiatives.

  • Proven experience in category management, procurement, or supply chain (steel/industrial products advantageous).
  • Strong commercial, negotiation, and supplier management skills.
  • Understanding of imports, freight, and international sourcing.
  • Sharp analytical skills with the ability to balance margin, cost, and supply security.
  • Excellent communicator with strong stakeholder management and a proactive, results-driven approach.
