Our work is grounded in providing bespoke services that manage critical custodial and fund administration workflows. This includes aggregating and normalising data from multiple custodians, performing intricate portfolio reconciliations, and managing the core operational tasks – from trade validation to investor reporting – required for accurate accounting and compliance.

This direct client engagement provides us with a unique insight into the industry's most pressing data challenges. We are now leveraging this expertise to build a scalable platform that productises our proven methodologies, creating a powerful, modern Operating System for investment management.

The Role

As our Founding Engineer, you will be a strategic partner responsible for architecting the technology that powers both our client engagements and our new platform. This is a unique role that combines hands-on engineering with high-level architectural design, giving you the chance to build a product from the ground up while being informed by immediate, real-world client needs.

You will have significant autonomy to shape our technical foundations, applying rigorous engineering principles to solve complex financial data problems. This position requires taking full ownership of the development lifecycle, working directly with the founders to build the core of our business.

Primary Responsibilities

• Platform Architecture:
  Design, build, and maintain the core backend of our multi-tenant SaaS platform using Python.
• Data Integration:
  Develop and manage robust API integrations to diverse financial data sources, including market data providers (e.g., Bloomberg, Refinitiv) and custodians.
• Database Management:
  Architect and administer the firm's core database systems (e.g., PostgreSQL), with a strong focus on data integrity, performance, and scalability for complex financial datasets.
• Quantitative Logic:
  Implement and test quantitative models for data reconciliation, transaction validation, and performance attribution.
• Client Solutions:
  Support and scale our existing bespoke data processing pipelines, ensuring robust service delivery to key clients while migrating logic to the new platform.
• Cloud Infrastructure:
  Manage and optimise the cloud infrastructure (AWS) that underpins all systems, ensuring security, reliability, and efficiency.
• CI/CD & Testing:
  Design and implement comprehensive testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines to ensure code quality and system reliability.

Qualifications

• Programming Expertise:
  Exceptional programming skills in Python, including deep expertise with its data analysis ecosystem (e.g., pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn).
• Academic Background:
  A strong academic record with a degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics). A postgraduate degree (Masters/PhD) is highly preferred.
• Database Systems:
  Demonstrated expertise in relational database systems (PostgreSQL, SQL Server), including architectural design and performance optimisation.
• Cloud Experience:
  Experience designing and building scalable, reliable systems on a major cloud platform (AWS preferred).
• Problem-Solving:
  A clear, first-principles approach to solving complex problems in a data-intensive environment.
• Professional Experience:
  Prior professional experience in finance, accounting, or trading is a significant advantage.
• Autonomy:
  A demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment with minimal supervision.
