About the Role
The WHS Senior Advisor – Entertainment is the divisional safety lead for our entertainment network across Australia and New Zealand, which includes all cinemas, outdoor experiences such as Moonlight Cinema, heritage venues like the State Theatre, as well as our Edge Content I Technology division.  

Partnering with the Entertainment Senior Leadership Team, Cinema General Managers, and WHS committees, the role ensures Work Health & Safety (WHS) is proactively managed, visibly championed by leaders, and embedded into the operational rhythm of each location. Going beyond compliance, the WHS Senior Advisor drives shared accountability, promotes consistent safety leadership, and strengthens frontline safety behaviours across a geographically dispersed, multi-site network. 

The role ensures WHS systems and processes are practical, scalable, and aligned to Entertainment-specific risks, legal obligations, and evolving safety expectations. It also contributes actively to the enterprise WHS Community of Practice and supports initiatives that enhance safety capability, systems, and consistency across the broader business. 

In addition to divisional responsibilities, the WHS Manager collaborates actively as part of the enterprise WHS Community of Practice and is expected to contribute to, or lead, enterprise-wide WHS initiatives that enhance safety capability, systems, and consistency across the broader business. 

Key Responsibilities

  • WHS Strategic Advice & Integration including advising the Entertainment SLT on WHS risks emerging from cinema operations, including but not limited to crowd management, technology/equipment use, anti-social behaviour and after-hours trading.
  • Operational WHS Support including tailoring WHS practices to venue-specific risks (e.g. slips/trips in foyers and cinema, manual handling of stock and projection equipment, food safety, contractor works, and guest egress).
  • Incident Management & Investigations including coaching Cinema General Managers and Venue Managers through effective incident investigations, including root cause analysis and follow-through of corrective actions.
  • WHS Capability Building including coaching Venue Managers through effective incident investigations, including root cause analysis and follow-through of corrective actions.
  • WHS Systems & Reporting including championing consistent use of Donesafe across all venues; support accurate reporting, follow-up actions, and visibility of safety data.
  • Divisional WHS Planning & Governance including leading the annual WHS planning process for the Entertainment division in collaboration with Cinema Operations and Risk.
  • Community of Practice & Enterprise Collaboration including leading enterprise-wide WHS initiatives that align with divisional expertise and strategic priorities.

Skills & Experience
WHS Technical Expertise

  • Sound knowledge of WHS legislation and regulatory obligations in Australia and New Zealand, including venue licensing and audit requirements.
  • Experience tailoring safety controls to operational risks such as slips/trips, manual handling, crowd management, food safety, contractor works, projection equipment, and guest egress.
  • Skilled in leading incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) processes.
  • Proficient in WHS management systems (e.g., Donesafe or similar) for incident reporting, hazard tracking, and compliance workflows.
  • Capable of delivering safety training and coaching that is practical, engaging, and operationally relevant.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret safety performance trends and identify emerging risks.

Entertainment-Specific Safety Knowledge

  • Cinema and venue safety: Crowd and queue management, late-night trading safety, slips/trips in foyers and cinemas, emergency evacuations, and projection booth safety.
  • Outdoor events: site setup, crowd and queue management, late-night trading safety, slips, trips and falls, managing and responding to changing weather conditions and any other relevant WHS requirements for outdoor venues of this nature.
  • Live theatre and heritage venue safety.
  • Food and beverage service: Food handling, hygiene compliance, and kitchen/bar injury prevention.
  • Event safety: Temporary structures, contractor safety, and public events.
  • Psychosocial: Fatigue management, guest/public aggression, lone work, and youth employment risks.
  • Seasonal and high-traffic periods: Increased risk during major releases, holiday periods, and outdoor events.
