IT Ops Specialist/Sys Admin

Duration
: Contract until end of Nov 2025 plus possible extension

: Brisbane based (Hybrid)

We're seeking an experienced IT Operations Specialist to lead a small team of regional IT Support Officers and ensure reliable, secure technology operations across APAC and LATAM. You'll combine hands-on engineering with leadership - uplifting service delivery, maturing processes, and partnering with management to continually improve systems and user experience.

What you'll do

  • Lead and coach regional IT support teams; own incident/problem/change workflows and SLA performance.
  • Operate and improve a hybrid Microsoft environment: Azure AD/Entra ID + on-prem AD, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, WSUS.
  • Administer Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive).
  • Manage VMware ESXi & Horizon (VDI); support on-prem and cloud servers, storage, and operating systems.
  • Implement and maintain SAML/SSO in Azure; drive automation with PowerShell.
  • Own backup and recovery (Veeam, Rubrik) and ensure integrity of data and services.
  • Oversee network security & performance: NGFW, switching, VLANs, VPNs/IPsec, Wi-Fi, WAN/LAN, AV/endpoint protection, SAN/NAS.
  • Maintain uptime for the IT service catalogue; provide monthly operations and project progress reporting.
  • Coordinate vendors and internal stakeholders to deliver maintenance, upgrades, and project outcomes.
  • Uphold safety standards and document/communicate global design and architecture principles.

What you'll bring

  • 5+ years with Microsoft Server and cloud technologies in a complex enterprise environment.
  • Strong background in systems administration + customer support, with measurable service delivery impact.
  • Hands-on experience across: Azure AD/AD, M365, VMware/VDI, PowerShell, Veeam/Rubrik, DNS/DHCP/GPO/WSUS, VLAN/VPN/IPsec, NGFW, Wi-Fi, SAN/NAS.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and supervise technical teams; comfortable owning escalations and metrics.
  • Clear, confident communication with users, leaders, and suppliers.

Nice to have (preferred certifications)

  • CompTIA Network+ or Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Server+, VMware Certified Professional (VCP), Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104).
  • Familiarity with ITIL practices and service management tooling.
