The Role
Southern Ports is seeking a Terminal Optimisation Delivery Lead to join its team in Bunbury. This project-focused role is central to delivering key initiatives under the Southern Ports Terminal Optimisation Program. The role will lead change management efforts, ensuring operational improvements are not only implemented but also embedded through ongoing coaching, upskilling, and mentoring.
The Terminal Optimisation Delivery Lead is responsible for establishing routines and frameworks that support continuous improvement, measured through clearly defined KPIs and success metrics. Reporting to the Regional Manager in Bunbury, the position will work closely with the Terminal Superintendent and Terminal Coordinator. While strong collaboration with terminal teams is essential, the role operates with an independent delivery and reporting function to maintain clear visibility of progress, risks, and outcomes at both operational and executive levels.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinate the implementation of the Terminal Optimisation Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), ensuring on-time and in-scope delivery of identified tasks
Lead process reviews to reduce idle time between vessel activities, including gap analysis between berthing, commencement of loading, and vessel departure
Support the development and enforcement of standards relating to cargo availability, load rates, and post-operation review processes
Lead the design and execution of monthly pre-and post-vessel reviews in collaboration with stevedores and SPA representatives
Document KPIs, SLAs, and performance expectations aligned with agreed shipping windows and hold participants accountable to agreed metrics
Drive stakeholder engagement through monthly workshops, technical working groups, and bilateral sessions with stevedores, shipping agents, and cargo owners
The Expertise
Tertiary qualification in Operations Management, Supply Chain, Engineering or related discipline
Business Management qualifications
Understanding of Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies
Strong background in port, terminal, or logistics optimisation
Experience in project delivery, change management, or process improvement
Capable of translating technical observations into action plans
Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power BI, or similar business intelligence tools
Understanding of heavy industry, logistics, or port-related infrastructure
Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
