This Role
The most senior legal role in the business, the General Counsel is a trusted advisor to the CEO, the Executive, and the Board. The General Counsel sets the strategy and does the planning for the legal function, allocating resources and setting priorities, and driving strategic legal initiatives, while ensuring appropriate alignment with the board-approved strategy and business risk appetite, and its compliance with regulatory obligations. The General Counsel oversees all legal matters across investments, superannuation, financial services, and corporate operations.
Using their proven management and leadership skills, the General Counsel will shape and hone a high-performing, responsive and client focused legal team which is aligned with the values and the needs of the business and its members. They will ensure advice is highly commercial, accurate and timely, and will develop their team to support the business and provide precedents, procedures and processes that enable it to thrive.
The Lawyer we Seek
This role suits a senior, highly professional, committed and well trained Australian financial services lawyer. They will have experience gained in a leading law firm at a senior level or will be working as a senior in-house lawyer, leading a business unit or whole legal team within a financial services business. They will have a pro-active and member focused approach, display exceptional people leadership and relationship management skills, with the proven ability to provide practical, commercially focused solutions and sound legal advice to the Board, CEO, Executives and the business.
Taken as a given will be your sound knowledge of the law as it affects investment management, managed funds and superannuation industry, corporate law and regulatory regimes. More importantly, you will possess the ability to adapt quickly to the changing needs of the business and the regulatory environment, anticipate legal issues and risks, and communicate complex issues to a wide range of stakeholders in a clear and simple manner.
