Fixed Term Contract (Maternity Leave Cover – 1 September 2025 to January 2026)
Part-Time | School Hours | Based at the Gladstone Marina Visitor Information Centre
About GAPDL
At Gladstone Area Promotion and Development Limited (GAPDL), we live and breathe the Gladstone Region. As the official Regional Tourism Organisation, our role is to share our unfiltered beauty, rich culture and unforgettable experiences with the world.
We're a not-for-profit, membership-based organisation, but we think big. We work hand-in-hand with Tourism and Events Queensland, Gladstone Regional Council and local tourism operators and accommodation providers to grow our visitor economy and position our region as one of Queensland's must-visit destinations.
When you join GAPDL, you're not just taking on a job – you're becoming part of a passionate team that believes in collaboration, creativity and community. Here, your work has a direct impact on how visitors experience our region – and why they'll want to return.
About the job
We're all about creating unforgettable experiences for visitors to our beautiful region - and it all starts with the warm welcome they receive.
We're looking for a Visitor Experience Manager – Northern Region to join our team on a fixed-term contract, managing the Gladstone Visitor Information Centre (VIC) and leading our incredible team of Gladstone Region Volunteer Ambassadors.
If you're passionate about the Gladstone Region, love working with people and enjoy creating a space where visitors feel informed, inspired and excited about their stay - this role is for you.
This is a part-time position (school hours, Monday to Friday) based at our waterfront VIC at the Gladstone Marina. Due to the nature of this role, it is required onsite 5 days a week.
What you'll be doing
- Lead our VIC operations – ensuring the centre runs efficiently, meets financial targets and offers a welcoming and engaging environment for every visitor.
- Support and manage our volunteer team – approximately 30 passionate Ambassadors – including rostering, day-to-day support and task coordination.
- Showcase our region – offering personalised visitor assistance and sharing your local knowledge to help guests get the most from their stay.
- Manage our retail space – from ordering and displaying stock to keeping it well-presented and organised.
- Maintain safety standards – ensuring workplace health and safety procedures are followed and the VIC remains a safe environment for all.
- Track and report on results – compiling monthly visitation and sales reports.
You'll have
- 3+ years' experience in customer service and people management (tourism, retail and finance experience highly regarded).
- A genuine passion for the Gladstone Region and the ability to inspire visitors with your knowledge and enthusiasm.
- Great communication skills – you can handle busy days with a smile and make people feel welcome.
- Confidence in point-of-sale and retail management – from processing sales to keeping track of inventory.
- An eye for presentation – making the VIC an attractive and inviting space for visitors.
Why join GAPDL?
You'll be part of a friendly team who love what they do - promoting the Gladstone Region as a must-visit destination.
We offer:
- A stunning waterfront location at the Gladstone Marina
- A positive, community-focused work environment
- The chance to make a real difference in how visitors experience our region
GAPDL is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion. We encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with disability and individuals of all backgrounds. If you require adjustments during the recruitment process, please let us know.
Applications close 5pm, Wednesday 20 August 2025.
