The Australian National Botanic Gardens is a place for recreation, inspiration, conservation, science and learning. Through our Living Plant Collections and the National Seed Bank, the Gardens makes a substantial contribution to conservation of Australian native plants. We work with a range of partner organisations to conduct diverse research into Australian plants and ecosystems.
The ANBG is an award-winning tourism destination, our public events and education programs aim to connect community to the stories of our unique collection of Australian flora.

As Interpretation and Learning Manager, you will lead a dedicated team delivering education, science communication and community engagement at the ANBG. You'll oversee onsite and outreach education for schools, lead the development of interpretation and science communication products including onsite, social and online audiences to connect and inspire communities to value and protect Australia's unique plants and ecosystems.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the development and implementation of the Interpretation, Inclusion and Engagement strategy for the ANBG
• Oversee the Science Communication Officer and the development and delivery of interpretation and science communication products relevant to different ANBG audiences
• Oversee the delivery of onsite school programs for over 20,000 students annually, including daily operations, program set up and education staff training and management
• Develop, expand and evaluate onsite and online learning products aligned with the Australian Curriculum, focusing on plant science, conservation, and sustainability
• Be the child Safe champion at ANBG and ensure a child safe and child friendly environment, that results in children's positive engagement.
What We're Looking For
Knowledge and experience
• Proven experience in developing, delivering and evaluating interpretation or science communication products and programs.
• Proven experience in developing, delivering and evaluating curriculum-aligned education programs for a range of audiences, including adults, children and family groups, students and teachers and communities with specific access needs.
• Demonstrated experience at effectively managing projects, workplans, budgets and staff.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders on learning projects.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
Skills and Capabilities:
• Strong leadership skills with a track record of building inclusive, high-performing teams
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team to creatively solve problems and work with a high degree of flexibility
• Excellent communication (written and oral), presentation and interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise with others on sensitive issues.
