The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) is responsible for training, educating and representing psychiatrists in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. About the role

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for approximately three months. Based in Melbourne, an immediate start is preferred with the position expected to conclude in October.

The Media Advisor supports the College's media and external communication activities. Working as part of the communications team, the role helps deliver timely and relevant media content in line with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists' (RANZCP) strategic priorities. This includes supporting efforts to raise the profile of the RANZCP, highlight the role of psychiatrists in mental health care, and promote greater public awareness of psychiatry. The role assists with day-to-day media tasks and contributes to positioning the RANZCP as a trusted voice on mental health.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support media activities that help position the RANZCP as a trusted voice on mental health issues in Australia and New Zealand.
  • Draft media releases, coordinate media responses, and assist in identifying media opportunities, in line with the RANZCP Media Policy.
  • Monitor media coverage and help maintain strong working relationships with key media contacts.
  • Assist in preparing media briefs, background notes and talking points for RANZCP spokespeople, including Fellows and Members, as directed.
  • Support the team in managing media risks and issues by helping with background research and timely coordination.

What you'll bring

  • Professional experience in media and communications (health/medical writing experience well regarded).
  • Experience in a membership-based organisation or in the health/mental health sector would be highly regarded.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in communications, public relations, or journalism.
  • An interest in mental health care and Australian and New Zealand health systems.
  • Australian or New Zealand citizenship, or the right to work in Australia.
  • Successful candidates must complete and pass a National Police Check before commencing employment.

Some of what's on offer:

  • Salary range from $82,896 to $103,464 is on offer, inclusive of leave loading and 12% superannuation.
  • Hybrid working model: 2 days in the office, 3 days from home.
  • A paid day off each month for full-time employees.
