About the role

Play a key role in shaping the future of South Australia's wastewater systems. You'll lead the development and delivery of asset management plans that ensure our infrastructure meets agreed service levels, while balancing risk, performance, and whole-of-life value. Your expertise will guide sustainable growth, improve customer outcomes, and protect vital services for our communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and optimise asset management plans for wastewater network and treatment infrastructure, ensuring performance meets agreed service levels while balancing risk, cost, and lifecycle value ensuring compliance with legislative, environmental, and safety standards.
  • Sponsor, guide and drive the delivery of multiple capital projects, ensuring clear alignment between business needs, project outcomes, and asset management objectives by facilitating decision-making workshops to align stakeholders on priorities, options, and investment pathways.
  • Engage, influence, and negotiate with diverse stakeholder groups (internal and external) to resolve conflicts between competing priorities, balancing operational, financial, and regulatory drivers.
  • Prepare clear, evidence-based reports and business cases to support investment decisions and executive approvals.
  • Develop professional presentations, visualisations, and briefing packs that distil complex technical and financial information into key messages for senior managers and external stakeholders.
  • Present planning outcomes and project updates to executive leadership, steering committees, and regulators with confidence and clarity.
  • Track and report on project progress, escalating risks and issues, and recommending practical solutions.
  • Facilitate structured workshops and meetings with inputs from technical specialists and synthesise information into concise planning deliverables, , documenting outcomes, and ensuring momentum toward agreed decisions.
  • Analyse asset performance data, identify trends, and apply decision-making tools to prioritise investments, develop cost-effective investment strategies to optimise infrastructure performance and continuous improvement initiatives.

About the Person

You have proven experience in Infrastructure planning and asset management, ideally within the water industry, or extensive experience with similar infrastructure.
You will need the following to be successful:

  • Qualifications in asset management, business/project management, engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to think strategically and develop innovative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Brings an ownership mindset to securing outcomes, demonstrating resilience, and following through to deliver results within agreed timeframes.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, able to analyse and simplify complex issues, identify options, and recommend practical solutions.
  • Knowledge and experience with water and wastewater systems, operations and maintenance (highly regarded).
  • The ability to lead effectively within a team and drive outcomes independently, with exceptional people and communication skills.
  • An understanding of asset management/project management principles and their practical application, and or experience in an engineering or technical operating environment
