The Role

The ABC Sydney newsroom is looking for a writer and producer with a passion for news to join our team in a growing and dynamic part of Sydney. You will focus on the production of breaking news and compelling features, pitching and writing stories that reflect the diversity of Greater Sydney. This is a rare opportunity to work in a brand-new newsroom with state-of-the-art technology located in Parramatta Square, very short walk from a well serviced train station and plenty of great food and shopping options.

The role is full-time, permanent and works on a 7-day shift pattern.

The Job

Under the general direction of the NSW News Editor, you will:

  • Research, gather and prepare breaking news, features and video stories for digital and social media platforms.
  • Pitch and write accurate high-quality digital stories of relevance to Sydney, NSW and Australian audiences.
  • Contribute ideas for digital coverage of metro and state stories, events and take part in editorial meetings.

Position Description:

About You

You'll have experience in digital news reporting and production, with proven experience in delivering news for audiences on a range of digital platforms, utilising a variety of storytelling techniques.

You'll have:

  • A keen eye for detail and experience working with others to accurately produce and subedit news articles under tight deadline pressures.
  • Strong knowledge of analytics tools and a capacity to use this to inform story treatments, headlines and presentation.
  • A demonstrated ability to innovate and identify fresh and interesting story ideas and angles that matter to the audience.
