Yarraville SDS caters for students aged from 5 to 18 years old with a diagnosis of moderate to severe intellectual disability. It has a current enrolment of 100 students. Selection Criteria
  1. Demonstrate experience and sound knowledge of physiotherapy techniques and the ability to develop, provide and evaluate physiotherapy services and provide specialist advice on appropriate intervention strategies.
  2. Demonstrated ability to deliver a comprehensive physiotherapy service to students within an educational environment including physiotherapy assessment and reporting and service delivery including Hydrotherapy programs.
  3. Demonstrated capacity to work as part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary professional team and contribute significantly to the achievements of the team.
  4. Strong capacity to apply highly developed assessment, conceptual and analytical skills in the provision of services for children, young people and their families.
  5. Demonstrated ability to design and deliver professional learning, for teachers and other relevant professionals, in the area of physiotherapy.
  6. Highly developed communication, networking and interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of people within the education community and beyond.
Role

Range 4 is distinguished by broader management responsibility, particularly in the areas of finance, human resource and other support functions. Range 4 is responsible for managing a range of functions under a wide range of conditions, subject to the size and complexity of school operations.

Objectives will, generally, be clearly defined; guidelines will be broad and day-to-day direction minimal. Management responsibility extends to ensuring appropriate support levels are maintained across the school. Range 4 generally provides key support and timely advice to the leadership team and school council and liaises with the general school community, the Department and other government agencies and service providers.

Specialised professional roles will carry a high level of independence and accountability where suitable scope is provided to achieve objectives.

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee¿s position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Responsibilities
  • To provide physiotherapy services to students at a special developmental school who have physical disabilities so they can have an optimal developmental chance and to prevent other Senior disabilities from happening.
  • Providing a child safe environment in accordance with the child safe standards
  • To work as a member of the school professional team for the best outcome of the students
  • Assessing students who need physiotherapy services at the school.
  • Accepting referrals from transition reports and new cases from teaching staff as required.
  • Prioritising students for therapy requirements.
  • Training physiotherapy assistants.
  • Working with other therapists at the school (OTs and speech therapists) as a team for the best benefits of students.
  • Workings with teachers and teacher¿s assistants for support and implementation of physiotherapy programs.
  • Maintaining documentations regarding therapy, parents meetings and progresses of the students receiving treatment.
  • Writing reports for 6/7 reviews, ENQs, and transitions reports as required.
  • To liaise with Royal Children Hospital¿s GPs, surgeons and other specialists for assessment and further medical intervention if needed.
  • To assist in safe working practice training for staff members.
  • Promote and develop a sense of school pride within the wider school community.
