About the Corporation
Mithangkaya Nguli Indigenous Corporation is a large Aboriginal community-controlled organisation (ACCO) with a significant operational footprint in North Queensland. The Corporation has its administrative base in Mount Isa, at the heart of Kalkadoon Nation.
The Corporation is growing rapidly as it expands it social welfare services in rural and remote communities in North Queensland.
The role of Company Secretary focuses on following key areas:
Preparation, coordination and minuting of Board and Sub-Committee meetings;
Providing clear advice on legal, constitutional and administration matter to the Board;
Maintaining records and submission of statutory documents to ORIC and other bodies as required
Ensuring Board compliance with Rule Book requirements
Supporting the Board to maintain a high standard of Corporate Governance and Accountability to Corporation Members.
About you
To be considered for the position, you will have:
Considerable experience as a Company Secretary, preferably in a First Nation led community organisation and in the not-for-profit sector;
Tertiary qualifications in Law, Business, Commerce or Accounting are highly regarded;
Strong understanding and knowledge of the Aboriginal Corporation Act, Corporate Governance and related legislation;
Demonstrated capacity working with sensitive data and a respect for data protection principles;
Exceptional organisational and time management skills, and the ability to demonstrate effective planning and task prioritisation;
Well-developed judgement and interpersonal skills, especially in respect to dealing with Elders in community and the ability to liaise effectively with stakeholder at all levels;
Strong attention to detail in all aspects of work, including excellent written and verbal communication skills;
A flexible and collaborative attitude, with a commitment to continuous quality improvement and application of innovative practices;
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and other online Board management tools/portals;
A positive notice Blue Card, or the willing to apply for one;
Willing to complete a National Police Check.
