This is a rare opportunity for an experienced and driven individual to contribute to our success by leading our Rio Tinto operations, with the potential to take on broader responsibilities overseeing activities across multiple rail networks nationwide.

About the Role:

As the Assistant Manager, Rail Grinding, you will oversee Loram's fleet of rail grinding machines, primarily operating on the Rio Tinto network, with the potential for expanding into other rail networks as opportunities arise. You will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the equipment, leading a skilled team, and ensuring compliance with all operational and safety standards.

Reporting to the Manager, Fleet Operations, this leadership role plays a key part in driving continuous improvement in service delivery, maintenance practices, and crew performance.

Given the nature of Loram's operations, regular travel across WA and other states will be required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and motivate a high-performance team, ensuring alignment with Loram's commitment to safety excellence, continuous learning, and meeting customer contract expectations.
  • Engage regularly with field crews, visiting track machines to assess performance, audit safety practices, verify product quality, and gauge customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain fleet equipment at optimal performance (98% availability) by overseeing preventive maintenance and making timely, proactive decisions on repairs and replacements.
  • Monitor and review performance metrics to evaluate productivity, track goal achievement, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in equipment performance, safety practices, and crew effectiveness, making recommendations to drive operational enhancements.
  • Manage and review budgets/revenue to ensure financial targets are met. Monitor expenditures closely to drive cost efficiency, profitability whilst maintaining the quality of our product.

What you bring:

  • Extensive experience in rail operations and leadership, ideally in a senior or operations management role.
  • Strong knowledge of safety, operational excellence, and team development within the rail industry.
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively at all levels.
  • Experience managing project plans, budgets, and performance metrics.
  • A commitment to environmental sustainability and the protection of local ecosystems.
