Creative Industries

The Creative Industries team supports a thriving WA arts and cultural sector and promotes participation and achievement in culture and the arts. The team works to highlight the social and economic benefits to the community from the creation of, and engagement in, high-quality arts experiences, including increased wellbeing and connection. We support these activities through grants and investment programs, research and policy development. Through recognising the importance of sharing Western Australia's unique stories and cultures, including those of First Nations peoples, we make our communities richer, more vibrant and more engaged.

About the role

We are seeking a dynamic and visionary strategic leader with a proven record of executive-level impact. As 
Deputy Director General, Creative Industries
, you will play a central role in shaping the future of Western Australia's creative sector, leading cross-sector collaboration and uniting government, industry, and key stakeholders to drive a bold and inclusive vision.

As a senior executive, you will lead the Creative Industries Division, driving both operational delivery and strategic direction across Western Australia's dynamic creative industries sector. You will bring a proven ability to forge strong partnerships across government, industry, and community, and a commitment to unlocking the State's economic potential through creative sector investment. With a track record in shaping policy, delivering high-level strategic advice, inspiring cross-sector collaboration and uniting diverse stakeholders around a shared vision, you will play a pivotal role in strengthening WA's cultural infrastructure and growing its creative economy. This is a unique leadership opportunity to influence meaningful, long-term outcomes for the State.

In your capacity as a senior executive you will be a key member of the Corporate Executive, provide strategic advice across the Department and lead the strategic delivery of key Government commitments that enable CITS and the Cultural Statutory Authorities to achieve Creative WA
,
 the State's 10-year vision to grow and sustain thriving culture, arts and creative industries in Western Australia

We are looking for a leader with:

  • Proven leadership skills in developing and implementing strategic policy and programs to enhance services and outcomes, aligned with Government's strategic objectives for Creative Industries in Western Australia.
  • Extensive understanding of the contribution and impact of WA's Creative Industries community at a State and National level.
  • Excellent management and communication skills with experience in engaging teams to deliver constructive outcomes.
  • The ability to effectively influence, manage and negotiate effectively with key stakeholders, to resolve complex issues and achieve shared outcomes.

We currently have one full time temporary vacancy available until 30 June 2026, with the possibility of extension, for a newly created Senior Executive position reporting to the Director General.
