Purpose of the Position

This role takes responsibility for finding family and kin to connect and reunify disconnected children, by executing and continually improving the Strong in Family & Culture Family Finding and Reunification procedures

Responsibilities and Duties


• Provide case facilitations to the Strong in Family & Culture (SFC) in all aspects related to family finding and reunification


• Using a variety of processes and mechanisms, diligently and proactively research, identify, locate and engage additional family, kin and significant others in the child/young person's life.


• Develop individualised family finding and reunification plans for approval by the Manager, and implement the plans to achieve timely results


• Maintain excellent family finding (including genograms) and reunification client and family records, and report on progress and outcomes.


• Establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships with colleagues, families and stakeholders


• Contribute to the development of policies, procedures, and standards in relation to practice.


• Provide support to Strong in Family and Culture team members as appropriate for a case facilitator


• Work always to advance the reputation of CQID and undertake additional relevant duties as required


• Participate and contribute to the organisation's compliance obligations under the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System and Human Services Quality Standards (HSQS)


• At all times work within CQID's Workplace Health & Safety Policies and Procedures


• Other responsibilities as directed by the Manager/Team leader

Qualifications and Experience


• Holds a current C Class Queensland Driver's Licence


• Current Working with Children Check, "Blue Card"


• Holds or is willing to obtain a First Aid and CPR Certificate


• Experience at successful service delivery to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people


• Qualifications or knowledge relating to Child Protection


• Experienced in client engagement and case collaboration


• Ability to work in a culturally safe and competent way


• Excellent ability to communicate effectively and respectfully in varying settings such as with families, children, stakeholders and colleagues; both verbal and written


• Understanding of Human Services Quality Framework and Quality Assurance Processes


• Ability to record information accurately through client management and genogram systems

Skills and Attributes


• Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage – [Note: Non-Indigenous applicants will only be considered if no suitable Indigenous candidates are attracted in the first round of applicants]


• Knowledge of the Child Protection Act 1999


• Competent in use of Microsoft Office and client management system software


• Physical ability to undertake job responsibilities, including the capacity to travel away from home to achieve family finding and reunification goals


• Ability to communicate effectively; spoken and written
• Outcome orientated, self-starter, motivated and able to self-manage work tasks and achieve results


• Demonstrable capacity to find family and achieve positive outcomes for children and families


• Understanding and knowledge of the child protection system
• Strong advocate for children, young people and families


• Thorough understanding of and ability to practice a strength based and culturally sensitive approach with children/youth, their parents and extended family/kin.


• An awareness of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander culture and society, the issues relating to Aboriginal children and family welfare and the ability to effectively communicate with Aboriginal families.


• Strong connection to and knowledge of local Indigenous Community
